I went on a hike out by Japatul in San Diego County today.  Coast horned lizards were everywhere - adults and babies!  Enjoy.

That baby is so cute I can't stand it!!!!!

I have always loved those guys, but since most horned lizards only eat ants I've never tried to keep them.

Very cool pictures, Kyle!

Kyle those babies are just incredibly easy on the eye Smile They are cool man, glad you are sharing your adventures with us. Take tons of these amazing pictures and allow us to see the beautiful Souther California wildlife.

Hey Chase, check this out:

They are of the genus Phrynosoma, and at least three of them can do this-

and afaik most of them (if not all) are ant eaters Wink

I think the fact that they are protected killed your dream a long time ago.  Wink

See, Oscar, I would enjoy having a pet that could do that. Imagine all the awesome stories I could come up with to explain blood spatter on the insides of cages. haha

Ah, Kyle, I didn't know they were protected.

actually I didn't know they were protected either.
The bone structure of the skull must be a real treat, I read that is the only place were the horns are actual horns and not just scales Smile
