Just wondering if anybody keeps these? I know some of you guys are into preserving skeletons and stuff, do you use dermestid cultures to clean them?
I received a small colony as a gift from a teacher friend of mine. The kit came with two freeze-dried frogs to feed them, but they didn't seem to like them. I gave them a mouse that my ball python had refused and they went nuts! It was nothing but bones in like 2 days! Very cool little critters. _________________ Mommy loves her little Monsters.
I think museums usually keep them for preparing skeletons. _________________ "Tarantulas are friends, not food" (but I bet they taste pretty good with butter and lemon!)

Oh not for me! I like my critters alive and fleshy, thanks. Funny thing though. When I got the box with the dermestids in it, there was a big sticker on the box that said "Biological Hazard -- Do Not Release". Then when I opened the box, there was a jar full of dermestids with air holes that were bigger than the beetles! Took me an hour to pick all the beetles out of the packing material. My hubby nearly had a coronary when he found out that there may be flesh-eating beetles loose in our living room! _________________ Mommy loves her little Monsters.
Tell your hubby they only like *dead* flesh, so he's in no danger unless he's a zombie...! ;-) _________________ "Tarantulas are friends, not food" (but I bet they taste pretty good with butter and lemon!)
