Hehehehehe......
It was bound to happen. I barely started handling my 8"+ Malaysian Cherry Leg centipede that I got from the Del Mar show a week ago, and it bit me on the tip of my finger.
It only sank one of it's fangs (is that what you call them?) into me, just in time for me to flick the giant bug back into its container. It definitely drew blood.
Pain was immediate. But not too bad, tolerable.
After the first minute I could feel the venom seeping into the rest of my hand....with a mild discomfort.
After about 10 minutes, I could feel it working its way up my arm. The only place where there was actually tenderness and legitimate pain, was in my finger where i was bitten.
However, the pain that I was feeling in my hand and arm, was not unlike the growing pains you experience as a child. I could also compare it to the pain that you could associate with getting a tetanus shot. Just a sore tenderness to the arm.
It felt like it went up my arm, accumulated a litte in my "funny bone" and then went up to my upper chest, just a little. (The bite, along with all associated pain, was on the left side of my body)
This was at around 9:20 AM, and now it's almost 4:00 PM
I was really tired because I had woken up early, so I took a nap. I think that sleeping took care of most of the pain. When I woke up, It was just the tip of the finger that was tender, and a little swollen.
But, I'm actually typing without much trouble at all.
I think I got lucky that only one of its big 'ole teeth was sunk into me, instead of both. But the pain was definitely there.
I wonder how crappy I would have felt if it had really gotten a good hold, and let out a lot more venom?!

and i always thought *i* would be writing the subspinipes bite report!
glad to hear it was not too bad... that could have been an agony for you
for future reference... heat treat centibites and it takes most of the pain away. of course, if you don't have heat pads this could mean spending the nite in the bathtub. S. morsitans, tanzanian tiger, male, blackhead morph did that to me =P
we deffo need some kind of bite report forum. i will see where we can shoehorn it
Edit: I took the liberty to move this post to the right area....W
