First off, hello everyone, I am...Paul. I just joined recently and have a quick question for those in the know. I have a M. Giganteus (giant vinegaroon) thats about 2 1/4 inches long, not including tail. I got him (or her!) at the NARBC show in Anaheim a little while ago. My question is, how often do these guys eat? When I first got him, I fed him lobster roaches and mealworms every other day, but for the last week he hasn't eaten. I recently added isopods to keep the tank clean, could he be eating those (kind of a duh question I guess)? When I drop a mealworm in, he feels it, then rushes into his burrow. Is he about to molt soon or what? Also, is there a specific way to feed them? When he was eating, he didn't actively go after the roaches, I had to almost push them at him, as opposed to my avic, who just launches at the things...
overall, he/she is pretty active and exploring the tank every night, and it has dug several burrows under the rocks in the tank...so...I don't know haha. Anyway, thanks in advance for helping me with my noob questions. _________________ "Totally cool, original and clever quote that people will like due to its unimaginable awesomeness, and deepness."
Hey, thanks Francisco. I'll try and post pictures up tomorrow of the vinegaroon and the tank I have it in also. _________________ "Totally cool, original and clever quote that people will like due to its unimaginable awesomeness, and deepness."
Hi Paul,
I've got a pair of adults and they seem to eat in spurts. They chow down a dubia every week for a month or so then just stop for a few weeks or more. I'm not expecting a molt from either of them, I think they're full grown and if I'm not mistaken, they don't molt after they get there. I just wouldn't worry. They're pretty cool, eh? I swear, one of these days I'm going to let one spritz on my salad. _________________ "I hold your opinion above all others, tribe elder." - Neshan W. Sarkisian
I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are in alphabetical order, like they should be.

Ogershok: thats good to know then. I wasn't sweatin it too much, its just a little funny how theres not very much information about them on the web that I've found :/. But they are very freaking cool. Although I wouldn't trust the salad spritzing haha. Anyway here's some pictures of him/her, hopefully him/her can be sexed by someone, because I'm tired of saying him/her:

(See Figure 17 in the .pdf file Balam provided the link for above).
Aren't they wonderful?
Several of us had females produce egg sacs this year, but all went bad and/or were eaten. _________________ "Tarantulas are friends, not food" (but I bet they taste pretty good with butter and lemon!)
thanks alot for your help guys. Vinegaroons are pretty awesome, I actually was searching local stores for them in vain until I went to the NARBC and saw her, I knew I just had to have one. They are like mini aliens.
