2 of my wolf spiders died that I got from Joe-Sorry Joe.
They were eating and both just molted successfully. One died on Saturday and I found the other one dead today. Their containers were fine-no mold or visual parasites of any kind.
I have a wolf spider that I got from Tim that had a successful molt in my care and it is doing fine.
I have the last remaining wolf from Joe which is eating and has molted successfully. It appears to be fine and healthy. This is my favorite wolf and I just want make sure I am giving them the proper care. I do not want to lose this spider. This one has a beautiful reddish hue on its abdomen and when it wants food, it climbs up the side of the container and hangs one of its legs out. It is such a cute wolf spider.
Denise, you are probably keeping them in fine conditions. There is a pretty decent chance that the crickets you got were bad or that they just were less fit slings.

You can ask Kevin (what), Johnny or Joe (Heks) and I am sure they would be glad to help you.
I keep all my spiders on the cocofiber substrate -Nature substrate Soft Bed. It holds the proper humidity and resists mold.
I have fake leaves and I mist the cage when needed. The crickets I feed are good quality so I do not think it was that. I do keep my room temp around 80.
Its a mystery that 2 died and the other 2 are fine. The slings looked fine but maybe you are right, there was something wrong. It does happen.
It just weird that 2 died a day from each other.

Hey, please excuse Mr Blunty's response. I'll be glad to contribute to your care sheet. Im no expert, just have kept a few various wolfies.
I tend to go with the bad crickets theory on her slings. Being slings, there is a significant ratio of losses. What I have found is that they prefer it dry. Mist only section so they can drink.
Feed them anything that moves (::lol::) once a week. Twice if small. A wood chip, flat rock, branch, leaves if room for it, they like to "perch" on that stuff. In fact, they should have plenty of room.

HI Johnny,
Thanks for the info. That is how I have been keeping "Wolfie." I got him from Tim and he said he got the spider from you. Wolfie has a 5 gallon tank with dry substrate, leaves and bark. I mist the leaves for water and I feed small crickets 2-3 times a week.
I would entertain the bad cricket idea but I would think my other spiders would be affected-not to mention my last remaining 2 wolf spiders.
The spiders I got from Joe were on very moist substrate. Since these spiders are suppose to live in drier conditions, I am wondering with my higher temps if too much humidity killed them? Joe may have lower temps than me so the humidity may not be an issue. However, I run a constant 80F temp which may have caused too much humidity and not enough ventilation. This is just a thought.
Anyhow, I went ahead and rehoused the remaining wolf in a larger container (plenty of ventilation) with leaves and bark to perch on.
I love these spiders. They are so pretty with cute little "personalities."
