Aptostichus eggsac (discussion & announcement)so my aptostichus made an eggsac
but it might be bad
i found a quite deflated eggsac in my gal's (apparently) cage. i know eggsacs can start deflated at first and fill up as the eggs develop, so that isn't my concern. my concern is that my gal has a two level burrow system, normally stays in the bottom level in a little room she made.... and the sac was in the upper level passage on the floor :/
so, if she is supposed to make a mobile eggsac that she carries around they are bad but if she makes an attached eggsac they could still be good. i am going to try to research out an answer today
i am debating stealing the eggsac and manually incubating it.... but i need the damn babies to hatch with their mommy so i guess that is out
(pics will come when i can get new bats for my cam... stupid titanium batteries are expensive though :/ )

First off, congratulations Andrew,
Now,
Educate me, why do the babies need to hatch with mom?

well, they don't *NEED* to, need to.... but i figure with mygs on the smaller side that make babies in the 3mm DLS range the easiest way to get them through their first instar or two is to have them live with mamma and feed off of her food items
it is pretty much obligatory with true trap doors (the ones who actually make trapdoors) as the babies will make a TINY little trapdoor and are beyond our current techs to feed when they do so. so... considering my gal hasn't actually made a trapdoor it might not be as important... but it is a time and effort saver, probably what they do in nature, and probably increases the chances of babies making it
(p.s. added old pics of the mom)

sweet! it appears she didn't abandon the sac in the upper level after all... i guess i startled her and she dropped it and ran. i have her in a small cage in a drawer :/ i think i am going to entomb her in another container to make it darker and stick her in another drawer that doesn't get disturbed as much

Good to hear Andrew, would be nice to raise some natives
The little one I brought home has been left alone and has built a tunnel system, though I do not know how extensive it is.
Anyhow, congratulations again!!!

i entombed her like three days ago.
took pics today
here is my hand in the shot to give some scale (i'm 6'2" 1.9m). as you can (er, can't?) see... the sides of the larger container are full of coco
here is a dif angle. you can see it is just a smaller container barried to the neck in a larger container
another scale shot. the eggsac is WELL smaller than a penny. i think it is right around 1cm diameter
best shot i could get of eggsac (and you can see mom, too)

How shallow is the container she/sac are in?
|

probably three inches deep, four wide
she has two levels. the deeper level used to be where she hangs out but now she always stays with the eggsac in the upper level

fail
either it was not a good eggsac or i think i kept it too moist. the area that i recovered teh spider from is bone dry rightnow... i should have listened to that more
:/
but the bugods take and the bugods give... i think one of my Apomastus made an eggsac.... it is attached to the floor of her(apparently, heh) lowest level. pics will bepretty much impossible, i can barely see it with my eyes, though the plastic
