Babies (yes more) but strange birth?

As posted on scorpion forum.

This time it was a Centruroides hentzi. I thought it was premoult but today I found it with one 1i baby on its back and 11 1i babies in several clumps spread around the enclosure. They were born either today or yesterday. Several of the abandoned babies were upside down. I did some research and figured that usually 1i's that are abandoned will die. I was really wanting more than one baby. I also determined that they were probably booted off when I picked up her container. This probably startled the mother who then discarded the babies so that she could hide.

As such I manged to collect the babies and place them rightside up on the mothers back. They each managed to find enough grip to stay on her back as she roamed around the enclosure. Granted this may stress the mother enough to eat the babies (including the one that wasn't discarded), but I really did not want to simply leave them to die, and I lack the tools needed to attempt to create an incubator to attempt to save them that way. I will check again in the morning when I wake up for work (4.5 hours from now, ::lol::) and see if they are all still on the moms back. If they are I'll leave things alone for a few days and see if they make it to 2i.

Anyhow, here is a picture.

UPDATE: This morning all but two of the scorps were off the moms back, but all were obviously alive (moving their legs). They grew in girth usbstantially overnight and looked very premoult. Perhaps today they will moult to 2i. I am very curious about why they were abandonded early. I wonder if perhaps this species drops them, lets them moult, and then after they all moult they climb back on her back? I did not observe this with my L. infuscatus or B. jackoni.

sometimes the scorps just fall off. You can try a spoon to pick them up and put them back on.
