Baby Millies!OMG! I just found BABIES in my albino Narceus americanus cage! I thought they were maggots until I looked closer. I wasnt' even 100% sure my trio were mature. I counted 10 ridiculously small babies, but I'm sure there are many more under the surface. I didn't want to stir it up cuz these suckers are TINY. This is the first thing I've bred that wasn't a roach and having just read Orin's article about breeding these in Invertebrates magazine, I made a few changes in husbandry and wah-lah! When they are larger I will offer them up to you guys. I took a photo but they are so small and my camera sucks. It just looks like pieces of rice in a pile of millipede poop. Oh well, I don't care, I'm so happy!

right on!
very nice looking millis and USA natives
you can try to find a double lens magnifying glass to take pics though. it takes a bit of work to get it right but you can greatly increase the range of stuff you can take pics of once you get it down
congrats

OMG! CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Please share your secrets! I am trying to get my African Giant Black Millipedes to breed. They *mate*, but don't seem to produce babies, so I figure they don't have the right conditions.
Please post pictures when you can! Can't wait to see the little buggers! :-)

One or two I think is enough. I have two mature females and one young one. I can't wait to see babies in that tank!

Congrats! Let me know if you'd consider selling a few. I love that species but haven't found them very cheap online.

You betcha! The babies are still pretty tiny, like I-don't-want-to-pick-you-up-cuz-I-might-squish-you tiny. I will feel more comfortable when they are at least an inch.

My new rainbows are a little over an inch and I still feel that way. ::lol::! How's the growth going?

They are doing fabulous! Some are 3/4 of an inch. I think another batch of eggs has hatched too because I'm seeing microscopic ones again! I will hopefully be able to attend the next BBQ where I will make some of these available along with some baby scorps.
No luck yet however with the Africans. No signs of babies yet.

Well, please tell us what conditions you are keeping your albino Narceus' at. What did you change to suddenly have them start reproducing?

Really the only thing I changed was I decreased the ventilation. This hasn't been problematic until the last week or so, the food keeps going moldy. I don't know why, it never got moldy before. I think I might move some of the millies into a different container (the ones big enough to handle). Maybe there's just too much poop. It's impossible to change the substrate because of the many teeny tiny babies. I set up my Africans in pretty much the same conditions, but no babies yet. It's only been a couple months since Francisco's male joined my girls, though. Does anyone know how long it takes the eggs to hatch?
