Bar-Bug-Que AUGUST 11th, SATURDAY (2007)Bug Bar B Que!!!
One of our new members has volunteered his house for the Bar-Bug-Que!!!!! AUGUST 11th, SATURDAY SATURDAY SATURDAY!!!!
a great big huge thanks to John (Johnnyster on scabies forum, AB) for letting us meet at his house!
we need to get on top of who is going to come, and what foods people are going to bring. it has been my experience that if we don't organize who brings what then we are going to end up with 17 bags of chips and enough plasticware for 100 people. I'll bring a salad as long as Nesh will be in charge of tossing it. Heh, just kidding. I will bring some kind of meat product to cook. I can also buy paper plates, paper towels/napkins, and flatware from the 99c store.
so the dishes/stuff to bring is looking like this:
meat1: andrew/caco
meat2:
meat3?:
salad:
side1: joe (egg rolls)
side2:
drinks:
chips/snacks1:
chips/snacks2:
dessert1: joe
napkins/plates/flatware: andrew
EDIT by NBond1986: Don't forget the DESSERT!!!
rsvp to me or other officers to get the address and let us know what you would like to bring!
WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!

I can NOT make it to the BBBQ if it is to be on August 11.....
I'm *unfortunately* going to be in Cancun from the 8th to the 12th.
My sister and I EACH won two round trip tickets (4 total), and each won a 5 day, 4 night stay at our own individual suites in the M.E. Cancun resort......on the Ellen Degeneres Show......not even joking. Sorry, no room for anyone, as the two extra tickets have already been claimed by friends of ours from Vermont.
Poor me, I know....::lol::
But, believe it or not, I'd rather be at the BBBQ.......tossing Andrew's salad, as it were.
Well, unless you change the date.....I can't make it.
But, y'all have a great time!
Have Warren take plenty of pics
|
cacoseraph
|
i feel real, um, bad for you, nesh.
take lots of pics of EVERYTHING you see in cancun. and i'm not even completely talking about bugs her... *wink*wink*
we will almost certainly have another bbbbbq so hopefully you can make the next one

Sorry all, I'm working

I work too but you guys are having it in the afternoon right? I'll be there if it's after 3pm. I can bring plates, cups, sodas ( i can go really ghetto and get those really huge bottles of mexican cola for like 99 cents ) and maybe umm rice...beans...and some little tostadas my family makes at our carne asadas. Basicly it's a corn tortilla with a layer of fried beans covered in chesse and put on the grill 'till the cheese melts. I can get some salsa too i suppose. *cough* alcohol*cough*. Or are we being legal here and I won't be able to drink?

Count me in, and probably my daughter, also. How about a pot of 2nd place chili?
|
Johnny
|
PlusThere is a pool for whoever wants to jump in. My 13 yr old daughter will be there to keep an eye on your kids.
There is a trail a few blocks away with plenty of bugs that would be a good show 'n tell for the kids or Arac-kno-nothings.
I could use some help before and after the event. (cleanup, prep, errands, etc etc).
Nesh, too bad you cant make it. Would've been cool to have you and Earl here. Cant you send one of my single friends in your place? ....::lol::, jk

Count me in!Hey i would love to come and my niece as well. My brother will come if he isn't working. i can bring a HUGE homemade potatoe salad, homemade 7 layer dip & some chips! If my brother can make it i'll bring along another side of food or drinks or desert or something.
Hey, would this be a good time to pick up out P. regalis slings and hopefully B. smithi slings? That would be cool. i also have a female L. hesperus with an egg sac she just made last week i was going to see if anyone in SCABIES was interested in.
Did i miss what time this is going to be?
Looking forward to it! jules
<edit> Looks like my brother is going to make it. i'll bring a couple 12 packs of soda as well.

Is anyone else bringing anything to trade?? i am planning to bring my MM OBT for David if he still wants him. i also posted a thread in BB for a MF L. hesperus with egg sac if anyone is interested in her. AddAndrew,
Add - - Rice, that my girlfriend will make. I could also setup a room thats within reach of the BBQ area as a Show "n Tell area.
What about inviting non hobby friends with kids to see if we tweak their interest up a bit? ......Andrew?
How about if I donate a starter kit and purchase a sling and give it as a prize ? (the only drawback is putting the sling in unexperienced hands)
Just ideas but Im getting pretty excited.

The bad news:
This will be the chili that I will be bringing to the Bar-Bug-Que. Good, bad or ugly.

Chicken, chicken, chicken!! Yeah for Chicken!! Actually, its the only meat i eat. i didn't think about volunteering for chicken until after i bought the makings for the other dishes i'm bringing. Actually, i can always bring a couple pieces of chicken for myself. i just got excited when i saw you mention chicken!! Actually, i'll probably bring a pack of chicken dogs so there will be a meat i can eat.
i don't know who is going to be there for sexing T's but surely somebody there can help. That would be really cool to see what you have too! i would definitely be interested if anyone could sex your E. murinus. So far i'm not having any luck finding a mature male for my girl. All i have found are other people also looking for MM's. Maybe we'll get lucky if you have a boy and we could doing a breeding loan when yours matures.
Lastly, do we have any details yet as far as time and location for directions yet? P.S. Add a large watermellon for me to bring too! Is anyone bring catsup, mayo, mustard, relish, condiment type stuff?

chicken good. headcount is 20ish. that would be the maximum you should bring. i think chicken for like 10 would be more appropriate, though. i really don't want anybody breaking the bank over this! like, i would hope no one has/will spend more than like ~$20
I REALLY LIKE THE BRINGING UNSEXED T'S IDEA. I WILL TRY TO REMEMBER TO BRING A FEW OF MY 5/10/15X MAGNIFIERS FOR PEOPLE TO USE. I ASSUME YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT LIVE VENTRAL SEXING? I AM CONTEMPLATING BRINGING MY 1.1 P. REGALIS TO SEE IF WE CAN GET A LITTLE MATING ACTION GOING ON

Andrew,
You had mentioned that one of yous' was going to be the Grillmeister right? If so, is he/she bringing a grill? I have a propane one as a backup. Im not much of a grill guy and will happily turn that task over to anyone.
I will set that critter room then, and whatever hits the floor will be mine after the 5 second rule (10 seconds for arboreals and 20 seconds for true spiders)...,,....::lol::, jk
Andrew, anytime after 12 is kewl with me, just set a time. I can go pick you up if you could get a ride back.

i have plates, flatware, and cups for ~40 and bowls for about half that many (for ppl who don't like their food to mix before they eat it... i plan to have the chili on my plate like regular =P )
i have ketchup, a couple kinds of mustard, some pickle slices, mayo type stuffs. they are all like, analog/cheap brands so if you are particular you might want to bring a few of those foil packet type things or something =P
i am thinking we might have a little bit of fun with bugs. i bought some rulers to take "offical" measuring shots of your bugs with me or someone to help you wrangle and take pictures if you would like.... bring your unsexed bugs for the group to take a look at... maybe there might even be a little tiny raffle. it would be TINY though

i am always down for more bug stuff. i just didn't want to impose any more than we already are.
we could keep doing bug stuff if the discussions or exercises/demonstrations are going well and people are still interested or we could do the walk. we can play it by ear. i will try to remember to bring my blacklight... just in case

i'm beginning to think earl is actually just a psychic projection of Neshan... something like a child hood imaginary friend brought to life by Nesh' desperate need for a friend. =P
twirl... i don't know about. i think he said he can't go. he usually works on at least one of the weekend days.
warren has a nice camera (actually, nesh bought his cuz he liked war's so much) and i believe a few other ppl will too

okay i got some hot dogs today but forgot the buns. If anyone wants to bring any that'll be cool let me know by tonight so I wont have to make a stop at the store manana. I also got two kinds of pie, good ol' american apple pie and Cheesecake(strawberry swirl). Two kinds of Duritos and some Tostidos. A few sodas (mexian favorites) Sangria, cidral, and pepsi. Umm I'm still thinking about the rice but will definatly take some of my tostadas. They will have to be put on the grill tough. Is anyone bringing meat? If not please let me know by 10pm tonight so I can buy some tomorrow morning.

It was a success for sure. It was great meeting new SCABIES members & seeing the others again. Great food (my hat's off to all the chefs) & company. Special thanks to:
- Johnny (johnnyster) for his hospitality
- Andrew (cacoseraph) for his contribution to the raffle & demonstrations
- David (DavidRS) & Warren (wburke17) for their contributions to the raffle, our trade & sale
- Francisco (ftorres) for his contribution to the raffle & letting us play with the A. gigas & T. blondis
- Jules for her closing the B. smithi deal & carefully packing/delivering them
- Steven for his widow demonstrations
- Devhyn (sp?) for pulling my name out during the raffle
I'm sure I missed some folks. Already looking forward to the next one.

Okay - and now for my slightly more honest ScabiesCon post... ::lol:: - David you almost killed me last night!!!!!
WOW!!!! My whole family had an AWESOME time!!!! i feel i have so many people to thank, i'm afraid i'm going to forget somebody. i can't even believe how much i came home with. i wasn't even planning on that. It was totally awesome!!! i can't wait for our next event. We hope to go on the evening hike next time if somebody will be home to let my dogs out! Okay, here it goes, i hope i don't forget anyone, you were all awesome. i would like to especially thank:
- Johnny (johnnyster): for your awesome hospitality, letting a bunch of crazy SCABIES in your home!!
- Liz (lizmotobike): Thank you for spending literally hours over a hot grill out in the equally hot sun. I wanted to offer to help but I can’t even make Mac & Cheese. My niece made the potato salad and deviled eggs we brought – ::lol::. Your chicken was beyond splendid!!
- Andrew (cacoseraph): for your demonstrations & most of all for the very cool P. striata's, pede and scorp!! AND... for donating 10 G. pulchra slings towards Kassie's science project!!! oh wait, i think i posted that incorectly on AB. i believe they are G. rosea slings. None-the-less, much gratitude! They all ate like little champs last night and Kassie LOVES her Scorp who was eating a cricket when i woke up this am.
- David (DavidRS): Dude... i have been recovering from some cough thing in my lungs forever and i'm a lot better. However, Laughing too hard really gets me coughing hard. You almost killed me with your post on AB. i literally thought i was going to hack up a book lung for sure! That was beyond hysterical. In fact, everyone else had gone to bed and i woke them up laughing and coughing so they read your post too. (Liked your one about knowing how to make a body disappear too!!) i really do love my end of the trade even if she isn't a P. miranda - ::lol::. i saw your Curly's when i first got there but didn't realize they belonged to you. She's awesome!! i got her all set up in her house last night. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! Let me know how the MM OBT does.
- Francisco (ftorres): Wow! i can't thank you enough for letting me take the male E. murinus home. i will keep you up to date. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and i'll be bringing you lots of little skeletons to a future Scabies Event!! Those skeletons are crazy man! They were both in separate burrows when we got home so i left them for a while. Later they were both up on top but not mating - EATING more crickets!!! i moved your little guy back to his house and he took his big wad of crickets with him! i filled his water and gave them both a couple more crickets and by this morning those crickets were gone too. i guess he just wanted to wine and dine her first - either that or raid her fridge!! Either way, niether one of them will have any excuses next time. i'll keep you up to date! Thanks so much!
- Warren (wburke17): for taking care of my P. regalis slings
Steve (buthus): for your widow demonstrations and the 3 awesome widows!! Thanks!!
- Kassie (my niece): for making the potato salad & deviled eggs AND especially for helping me unpack and rehouse all those cute, tiny B. smithi!!
- B. smithi Buyers: Thanks everyone for following through with their purchases. i would definitely be willing to do this for the group again.
Wow! i'm sure i forgot some people. It was just a great time seeing a lot of you again and meeting even more people. i can't wait to see some of the pics. Especially the ones with Andrew's special hair art!! Thanks everybody!

Hello,
Just want to thank you all for the fun time we had on Saturday. Everyone was real cool and alot of interesting bugs. David's chili was "POOF"!!! ...gone as soon as it was ready for gut. (I confess, I saved about a cup or two for later....im gonna send it to a lab and have the recipe deciphered). The food was great. The kids swimming and searching the yard for spiders with their cups....that was funny. Joe, im guessing you didnt get your "bite" picture. Buthus, thanks for the white ladies and for bringing the kukulcanias. The hike was great too. We didnt have to go far for some good findings, specially the one with the slings.
Virgie later told me that she got there late because she went to the mall and other places because she thought they'd be like 4 or 5 guys just talking spider talk and she'd be bored. She was surprised to see so many people all over. She actually had a great time.
Msg to Andrew:
"Oh man, Im beginning to really like the p. irmina that Virgie won. (I still cant believe that).Very cool and fast little thing. I took it out of the cup and it teleported on me.... I hadnt done any reading on it and didnt know about the speed. I was looking moving the cup so it would come out and it didnt so I was like "WTF?" and it was already on the tank screen top..... amazing! "

thanksI had a great time. It was so nice to see all of you face to face j/k
1. special thanks to Johnny the perfect host. he opened his house to us
like we were family. a real gentleman. (I am so sure he is crying about
that now! - j/k hopefully)
2. Andrew for being the brain child. deal maker, demonstrations,
organization without hysteria. also being so patient with the kids.
getting them excited about bugs (without shrieking .....well almost).
3. the people that donated their time to give interesting and fun
lectures. Steve (buthus): wow you are the most trusting soul.
4. oh my god the food..........
award winning chili, potato salad and deviled eggs! ( most bbq's its
one or the other but we had both) tostadas/quesadillas (again most
bbq's, it's one or the other but we had both!) shrimp ceviche,
carne asada, spring rolls with the most amazing dipping sauce, an
assortment of cookies, I have not even touched upon the beverages! or
the desserts! cakes........ cheesecakes and a rolled torte
our scabies people are very generous.
the sf bats are twisting in the wind with jealousy
the great thing was there was so much great food from so many cultural back rounds it really was amazing.
special thanks to all that put up with my bad memory for names. Maria, Monica esp. sorry if i left any one out!
all in all many generous trades were made!

Thank youI had so much fun Saturday. I want to thank John for allowing a whole bunch of wackos use his house. It was nice meeting all of you and finally putting a face to a screen name.
I specially like the fact that I won the raffle 3 times, ::lol::. Well, 2, since once it was my son. He named his first tarantula Spooky.
I look forward to the next one. I can't imagine it being possibly better.
By the way, I seemed to have misplaced one big (4" - 5") G. rosea so if somebody has an extra one and it is wondering where it came from is probably mine. Maybe it is next to Warren's flashlight, ::lol::.
Thank you all of you for such a good time. Thank you Andrew for organizing this event.

Oh great !
Funny thing, yesterday when I got home I felt my pinky finger burning and swelling and the sensation moving up the finger. It lasted for about an hour until the gang showed up. I immediately checked the collection for any escapees but found everything ok. Today, there is still a red 3/4" red circle but no punctures.
Hmmm,,,, coincidence probably......

PICTURESOkay I finally got all my comp. problems fixed(knocking on wood)
First off I’m terrible w/ names (Liz can contest to that ) so if I miss one or get it wrong let me know and I'll fix it. So here goes;
First off here’s the table and counter that we were using to display our goods.
And here’s are cook, Thanks again for standing in that sun and cooking up some delicious foods
And here’s a pic of everybody enjoying it.
Next up we have Steven(buthus) do a show and tell on his impressive widow collection.
Here’s when we started the raffle(and when I’ll start screwin up names)
Johnny's girl friend;
Eddie(abyss);(watch that middle finger there Buddy )
Luis’s son I think?
Luis;
Eddies friend;
Paul(ronin);
Joe;
Monique(my wife);
Devhyn(my daughter);
Joe’s son?
Our host, Johnny;
Johnny's daughter;
Eddies lil brother;
David(davidrs);
there’s more that I missed, sorry if I didn’t get you
After the Raffle there was a breeding attempt w/ Jules and Francisco’s E.murinus. Didn't have my camera for this.( I think I was eating again)
then we had Andrew try to handle some of his Pokies. His female didn’t want anything to to w/ this so he moved onto the male;
at his point it was getting a little X-Rated(I seen the male try an insertion)
So after that the testosterone or the alcohol was kicking in so he moved on to the T.blondi's
Now Steven wanted some of the action;
Trying to sex it!
Then after all the manhandling it went straight to the nearest refreshment it could find!
Well that’s about it, I didn’t get a group shot(Neshans Job) and I forgot to take my camera on the lil hike we did.....W
