classic paloma style

you guys are probly gonna get sick of the paloma pics. i went out on another excursion in the sonoran and ended up with some GREAT shots! andrew and robert, look what you get to look forward to!

this is a classic paloma burrow. just about every one looks just like this. they are about the size of a dime

and the spider

now paloma are typically found in sonoran desert habitat, but there are always exceptions. i was in juniper/pine forest looking for aphonopelma behlei. the temp was 34 degrees and it was snowing. i was wandering around flipping rocks when i found a tiny hole in the ground with a perfect matt of silk. i thought it was a wolf spider but wasnt totally convinced. i dug it up and to my surprise, this feisty gal was hunkered at the bottom

these next pictures are classic paloma intimidation.....and lemme tell ya..theyre convincing!

Man, I gotta get me one of those.
josh_r

come out to AZ, you'll get one.
Ronin

Sounds like a plan Josh.  With you as the guide, I'm sure we can find anything we wanted to.   Smile

Hopefully someday soon I can get out there w/other SCABIES folk.

that would be pretty cool actually. i know a few of the guys want to get out this way. august is thypically the best month out here as far as diversity and numbers.... but it all depends on what you want to find. some species only come out during winter months or early spring or late fall. but you guys would be just fine in august... everything from tarantulas and amblypygids to scolopendra heros and vinegaroons are out in august.... not to mention countless herp species.

hopefully, i will be out that way again in june or july.. maybe sooner.

Josh:  *fabulous* in-situ photos!  It's really great for those of us less experienced with these species to be able to see what their lairs look like so we know what to be on the lookout for and be able to recognize them if we see something like that.  Keep 'em coming!

'Cisco:  please bring me back some D. granti's!  :-)
