Come watch me mate? (sat. feb 23, 2008)I have a mature male Poecilotheria ornata i am going to introduce to my crabby ass female.
We have a MM H. maculata that has paired once with my female that i am thinking i am going to reintroduce
I will be doing this tomorrow at "my" petstore, but i am not yet sure about the time. I have to get medicine for my cat, also.
I think i am going to try to get to the petstore when it opens at 11am and feed the two females in question and then give them ~4hours to eat. i think i will try the pairings at ~3pm

oh and the scorpion section can be decorated all dark with all these UV reactant things...  COOL.... SCABIES pet shop. Kinda off topic but I might be getting my scorp tattoo outlined and higlighed blue(UV reactant).

yeah and we can construct a wall size ant farm out of plexi-glass and have guard rails 4 ft from it. That way if we have a death we can feed the deceased to the ants haha, going way over board here

And as for the store, I'd really like to open one in La Crescenta, but there is almost NO retail space available. Cynjay sent me info on a retail space available in Riverside (next to Strickly Reptiles), but it's kind of far away for me. Would that be close to anyone else?

no one else showed up, which is probably good as it was very anticlimactic. heh. literally.
i ended up cohab'ing the two in a large super cage around the females cage (with the lid removed from it). i am going to swing by the petstore on my way home today and seperate the male and see if he won't now spin a telltale sperm web for me. i had that male running all over me on accident when i was trying to introduce the pair. i was a little nervous for a sec there.
i saw virtually no receptivity in either. the male was a little more willing (as is usually the case, it seems) and did do a little tapping and stroking. the female displayed almost no receptivity, but was quite docile and let the male climb around on her a little bit with no problem. when the male made first contact the fem *did* do about 1 second of pedipalp drumming so she wasn't TOTALLY cold.
it actually really reminded me of the first time i mated my P. regalis. it was my fem's first time and she acted like she didn't know what to do. i cohab'ed for three weeks in that situation and got a viable eggsac. the next time i mated my fem reg she acted like an old pro and it was dang near textbook. i am curious for what happens the next time i mate this fem ornata

everyone in soca is sick!
i collected the male from the cohab enclosure last night. i didn't see any evidence of a SW in the shared enclosure but it seems like the males like to wait until they are seperated into their own cage before making a new one. i forgot to check this mornign if there was evidence of a SW in the male's cage
