Dogs Day Out At The Beach!Well, after my dogs spent 12 hours locked up in the house yesterday AND they were perfectly behaved, I thought they deserved a little reward. So, I took the girls to Laguna Beach. Bummer part is that dogs have to wear their leads in Laguna but there is a little dog store on Forest Ave where I bought them some Salmon Jerky.
They know we're going somewhere but don't know where yet! (Take note: they're pretty clean when we leave!)
Now they're both dressed and ready for some fun in the sun!
It was so clear and beautiful; you'd never know there were raging fires 30 minutes away.
Well it looks like Molly has already secured a summer job for 2009! LIFEGUARD!
Bridey, her big sister, is teaching Molly the finer points of beach work. Most important; how to clear the beach of swimmers so dogs can play off leash in the water!
And this is what I put in my truck to take home at the end of the day! Yes, they sleep in my bed!!

They are sooo beautiful Jules! It's great to see someone treating their dogs like family. That's how it should be!

P-Nut would never go into the water by choice. However, once a wave knocked my little son Logan down and P-Nut dove in to pull him out. A 9 pound dog can't really save a 30 pound kid, but we love him for trying!

That reminds me of one incident when I first moved here. I took my two Dachshunds, Iggy and Buttercup (both of whom have long since passed on to the Rainbow Bridge) to a friend's house where I was going swimming. Every time I dove into the swimming pool, Iggy (who weighed all of about 15 pounds) would race around the pool barking frantically until I resurfaced...

I can't remember Bridey ever not loving the water and Molly was a quick study. She was ready to jump right in and get her feet wet from the time she was a pup. However, she didn't want to get too wet. Well, the big wave had to come sooner or later and after it crashed right over her head, she decided she would watch her big sister from the shore for the rest of that day. However, from our very next trip out to the beach she couldn't get enough. When I see a wave coming, I yell "Big Jump" to the girls and they both jump into it.
I used to have dobies and they never wanted to get wet much less go swimming. I have to keep a close eye on my Aussie girls. Molly seems to think she has webbed feet and can go way out there. She's real good about swimming right back to me. I honeslty wish I had a swimming pool my girls could use and I'd let them swim everyday if they wanted.
Here is a picture of little Molly watching her sister from the shore after the first big wave hit her. She was about 4 months old.

Your such a good mommy Jules!
I just love the pictures you took. It looks like your fur children enjoyed their day out. Thanks for sharing.
My guys love the beach. Nicodemus loves to go in the water and bite the waves.
Your babies are so adorable!

You mean the guys *don't* spoil their dogs?
I used to take Iggy and Buttercup to Eaton Canyon almost every day... and then longer hikes (Chantry Flats, etc.) on the weekends. It was funny, because if there was water there, they would wade right in, but just *try* to get them into the bathtub when we got home!
Most of the dogs I have currently are too old and arthritic to hike. But Mikki (the elderly Chihuahua) *lives* for her rides in the car when I take my son to school in the morning.

I used to take my dogs hiking often. Not sure what happened, shame on me. Hmmm... I'm pretty certain I've got pics of that somewhere online too! I still haven't retrieved my pics from the older computer my brother jacked up for me. (No hard feelings; can you tell??)
My girls love car rides too, even if it's just a quick trip to nowhere special. Their philosophy is you never want to miss an opportunity for absolutely anything! I have to pick up my older girl now to put her in and out of the Xterra because its a little high for her. She used to hate being picked up but it's all good now!
