Few spider pictures

Here are a few spiders i found lately , eighter inside my house or the building where i work. I'm sorry i'm not the best photographer so some pictures are not as good as they should or could be but some of them are still nice. By the way i don't know the species nor families. If you guys want to try and I.D. them , feel free to do so but this is not the reason why i'm posting them. I'm simply showing you some of the spiders that live here in my part of the world hehe. I will probably post some more pics here in this thread whenever i find more :-)  Enjoy !!

The first few pictures will be some wolves i found at work. They are the only ones i do recognize hehe. Genus Trochosa witch is the same as my pets.

The next pictures are of a spider i found in my house as soon as i came back from work. I'm thinking probably from Araneidae family but not sure.

The next one lives in the corner of a window outside the building where i work. She is about 2-3 feet above ground level. Very small, 3-4 mm body lengh. Probably something around 6-8 mm Leg span.

Next one is probably at least twice as large as the last one and darker in color. I would estimate body lengh around 7-9 mm and leg span around 1.5 - 2.0 cm. It's kinda hard to tell for sure because she is soo high above ground level that i can't see her very well. I took those pictures with my arms fully extended with the camera. She built her web the same way the other spider did , in the corner of a window . But she is above the main entrance's doors. Also she can only be seen at night. Whenever i go outside during my shift, she is there . When i exit the building around 7 AM to go home , she is gone. I'm kinda glad she hides during the day , otherwise the people who work there would definatly destroy her web and kill her. I keep finding squished spiders all over the building when i work. I'm the only one who likes spiders in that building ::lol::.

Those last pictures are not all from the same specimen. Those spiders were found in my house. They are also quite common in the house ::lol::. I used to find another kinda spider in my house that kinda had the same shape as my wolves but a little smaller and they were yellow and i think that the spiders on those pictures might be the reason why i can't find any of that other species i used to find. They probably killed 'em all. I think people call those Daddy long legs.

ok well thats it for now. As i said earlier in this post, you guys can try and I.D. them if you want but if you don't know what they are , don't start researching on them for me. Unless you do it for your own personnal knowledge Smile
Pulk

the second spider is some kind of theridiid. the third and fourth are araneids. the first and second to last of the last bunch are pholcids (daddy long legs), but I don't know what the rest of them are. (mature male of something other than a pholcid)
Krawll

Hey again Smile

I'm back with a few more pictures. I went outside in the back yard yesterday with my camera hoping to find some spiders and i did find a few nice ones .

here they are :

First one is a little female zebra jumper. I think thats as big as they can get. She is actualy the bigest one i've seen so far.

- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2517.jpg
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2514.jpg
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2511.jpg

second spider is another jumper but not the same species i think. It was also hard to take good pictures of him/her because he/she was almost camouflaged by the colors of the wall he/she was on.

- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2551.jpg

Next one kinda looks like the Pholcidae from the last series of pictures on my orevious post but i don't think it's the same species. Maybe it is but this one here seems to have a few differences. Anyways , here she is :

- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2549.jpg

next one seems to be some kinda Orb Weaver but i can't tell for sure because she was crouched on a side of my niece's toy slide. If she had been in a web i would've been able to tell you more.  Also this spider was awesome to see. I managed to make her move but she was soooooo freaking fast, i couldn't get a picture of her with her legs fully extended. As soon as she stoped moving she would simply crouch again into that little ball that you can see on the picture. I even asked my room-mate to take the camera so i could try and get the spider to climb on my hand to get a better picture but the spider wouldn't stay on my hands for very long. She would simply run to the side of my hand then jump down . I eventualy lost her in th grass and since i was afraid to step on her i simply decided to end that spider hunt hehe. In other words, those 3 pictures are the only ones i could get. Sad

- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2565.jpg
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2566.jpg

And of course i kept the coolest spider i found for last hehe. I have no idea at all what family, genus nor species. All i know is that she lives in a web and her web simply seems to be a whole bunch of single threads going in random directions and all condensed in the corner of a window. Pretty messy web hehe.

well , thats it for spiders but i have two pictures of a very tiny web that i found in the grass. There was no spider in it so i'm guessing it was probably the work of a tiny little Funnel weaver ( grass spider) and that she was hiding somewhere near the web. I didn't find the spider but here is her web.

ok , well thats all i got for now Smile
Comments and additional informations are always welcome Smile
Pulk

the supposed orb weaver is definitely an orb weaver. the next spider is an agelenid (grass spider).
Krawll

Thx Pulk for your replies Smile

I have a couple more spiders to show . There is one in particular that i would like to have more infos of if anybody knows anything about it . It's kinda similar to a yellow sac but i doubt it. I found only 3 specimens of that one so far and i managed to picture all 3 Smile The first one was dead, inside the building where i work. He was on the floor in the hallway so there was no way for me to know if it builds a web. The second specimen i saw was coming down right in front of me as i was facing the window, outside of the building. As it got on the ledge, he started eating some very tiny flies that were almost all over the windows hehe . I also filmed that one with the same camera but this camera doesn't realy make good quality videos. You can still see it kill 1 or 2 flies and then eat them but it's kinda blury and dark cuz it was at night. The third one was tonight as i got to work , he was on the main door's window but that one was missing 2 legs on one side. Poor thing. I took a few shots of eatch specimens + the little movie. here they are

1rst one:
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2283.jpg
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2284.jpg

2nd specimen:
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2606.jpg
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2608.jpg
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2608.jpg
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2612.jpg
- http://s283.photobucket.com/album...ion=view&current=DSCN2613.flv

3rd Specimen:
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2634.jpg
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2636.jpg
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2638.jpg

If anyone recognizes this spider plz share any info you would have anout them . That would be much apreciated Smile

Thx in advance.

The two next spiders are the two smallest spiders i've ever seen.

1rst :
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2593.jpg
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2594.jpg
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2595.jpg

The more i look at it , the more i think it's still just a spiderling.  It kinda even looks like the first spider from this post. What do you think ??

Last one :
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2642.jpg
- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2643.jpg

The camera makes it look biger than what i saw with my own eyes. It only looked like a small black dot on my arm.

ok thats all for the moment .
thx again in advance Smile
Johnny

Hey Krawll ,, try ID'n them on bugguide.net
Pulk

the first one looks a lot like a yellow sac spider (Cheiracanthium inclusum), but I'm not positive (don't know if they even range that far north).

the second one might be Clubionidae but I'm not sure about that either.

the last one is a crab spider (Thomisidae).
Krawll

thx johnny and pulk.

I went to check out pics of the yellow sac after posting this last post and some of the pics i've seen were almost identical to the spiders i found in my building. If this realy is a yellow sac, it means that the website i've seen that said that there were no dangerous spiders where i'm from was probably wrong.

It's kinda weird cuz i've read this on the website of the insectarium of Montreal. And Montreal is only a 2 hours drive from where i live. I think i'm gonna try and send them an e-mail with my pictures and see what they have to say about it Smile

Oh and johnny thx for giving me a good site for identifications but i don't post my pics here only for that purpose. I do like to have informations about the spiders i'm posting here but i also post those pictures to show you guys some of the spiders that are found here Smile I know most of you are in California and most of the spiders that you can find where you are from are alot more impressive both in size and appearance than the ones found here in Quebec but i still like to share my pics hehe.

It's kinda funny though, in Quebec we seem to get the small version of everything ::lol::.  The crab spiders from the U.S. are large and impressive but here we get a very tiny one hehe. Wolf spiders in the U.S. are also very large and the ones we have here are rather small. I'm definatly jealous ::lol::. Even the jumpers that you get in california are biger than the ones here in Quebec ::lol::.

At least we get the mighty D.Tenebrosus here . I was only lucky enough to see one specimen in my whole life though . Also we are lucky enough to have tarantulas sold in our pet stores but there are none in the wild. I also know ONE pet store where i could buy Emperor Scorpions but thats about it. I guess i wasn't born in the right part of the world to be a bug lover ::lol::.

I guess that there is at least one positive side Smile  We don't have black widows nor brown recluses here nor any other of the most dangerous species like funnelwebs and stuff like that. I realy don't mind the fact that i won't ever come accross any of those i just mentioned hehe.

Aiight well thats about it ::lol:: , thx again for replying to my posts. If you guys think i should post only the most beautiful ones instead of posting every single spiders i find , i don't mind. Just say so and thats what i'll do Smile

later people.
Krawll

Oh and Johnny are you the same guy that invited me here ?? From the Insectshobbylist spiders forum???? That guys name was Johnnyster and you're the only Johnny i know here on Scabies Smile  Just wondering ...
Krawll

I did check out bugguide.net and the only two species they have of the Cheiracanthium Genus were Meldei and Inclusum. I tryed to find more infos about both of them because they both look similar to mine so it has to be one of the two.

The only website i found that actualy did give some infos other than pics and names said that they are found in europe and asia ::lol::. its probably found in other places as well though.

I'm wondering if it was possible that those spiders could've been brought here by human transportation. We do order stuff . Mostly paper towels, toilet paper,  and alot of diferent cleaning products and equipment. I guess it's possible that some of those things might come from somewhere else. Anyways , i think i'm gonna try and capture the next one i see. I just saw another one last night so that makes 4 total.  If it realy is a non local species, i would probably be the only person around here to have one mouahahahaha !!!

The website i visited also mentioned that their bites were only slightly more severe than a bee sting and in some cases might cause swelling. Now i wouldn't say that's dangerous :S  I'm starting to wonder why people keep saying that yellow sacs are dangerous. I'm not talking about you guys ::lol::, i just remember reading comments somewhere that yellow sacs were part of the dangerous species. Those first comments were even comparing the yellow sac with the brown recluse .

Anyways , i guess i'll just find out the hard way ::lol::. i'll try handling it and if i get bitten, i'll take pictures of the bite and post them here hehe. Now don't get me wrong. I'm not gonna poke it around and pretend to squish it to provoke a bite. I'm gonna handle it the same way i do with other spiders witch seems to work fine for now Smile

so untill then i wish you all a great day Razz
cacoseraph

right on, thanks for sharing your local species

have you ever thought about starting your own local forum?  scabies can help you out.  we like to help ppl get local groups and forums rolling Smile
Krawll

Hey Seraph !!

To be honest , yes i would love it if there was a group of bug lovers here . Well chances are that there is probably a few already but i just can't seem to find them Smile

I have to admit that i kinda stoped searching for a local group when i ended up here hehe. This here is exactly the type of forum i was looking for and you guys and girls are cool and you all seem like good people to me .  The only down side is that i'll never realy be able to meet you all or go to your BBQs.

Oh and to answer your other question well i'm thankfull for your offer about helping me to start my own forum and/or local group but i will have to pass. I realy enjoy being a member and i like to participate actively in a forum but i don't think i would like to host it .

I might change my mind eventualy but for now i'm just here to learn, help, share pictures and joke around with you guys.

Thx again for offer though.
Krawll

Hey , i'm back with another video and a few pictures but only one spider this time.

This spider has been living in my bed room with me for at least the last two weeks but maybe more Smile She had built her web just between the wall and the side of my computer desk. She was so small that i didn't mind her presence at all and i was only more worried about her being able to find food or not.

Today, maybe 3-4 hours ago, my pack of cigarettes fell from my desk and landed right on the little spider's web, destroying it completly but by some miracle, the spider was standing on the top of the pack when i checked to see if she was still alive or not. so i grabed the pack , taking the spider along with me and i put her in a plastic container . I grabed the camera and filmed myself handling the spider for a little while then i put her back in the container and took a few pictures , then i released her outside the house hoping she can find more food there.

The video is kinda newbish. The quality is not so bad but i move the camera around alot . especialy when i'm switching hands because the spider is getting too close to my sleeves and i didn't want her to try and go hide under it. By the way yes it's the same species as the second spider from my first post in this thread. I think Pulk had identified it as a member of the Theridiidae family. It's crazy how it's shape and the way she walks makes me think of a black widow hehe. I'm sure if it was possible to paint her all in black and add a red hour glass on or under her abdomen without killing the spider, i could fool people into thinking i'm handling a B.Widow hehe.

Take a look at it and tell me what you think. They do get biger than that. This specimen is not the bigest i found.

- http://i283.photobucket.com/album...her%20spiders%20pics/DSCN2660.jpg

Before i end this post, i just wanna say i finaly found my mysterious yellow spider. It is now confirmed that it is a Cheiracanthium meldei. They are very similar to inclusum , in fact, i don't even think i could tell the difference between the two unless i had one specimen of eatch right here in front of me. And the only way i can absolutly be sure that it's not an inclusum is because that one doesn't live here in Quebec. C. meldei is a local species . I just found that out about an hour ago. The site also put the spider under the house spiders tab witch would explain why i only see them around the building.  Thx Pulk, you gave me the headstart i needed , by telling me the Genus Smile  Oh and i don't need to get bitten anymore ::lol::. The site clearly states that meldei is the only species of spider in Quebec that has a necrosis bite. Though it isn't nearly as bad as a recluse bite . Recluses are  kinda hard to beat aren't they?  Razz

Aiight i'm done now Razz hehe

take care
Johnny

Hey Krawll, yeah that was me "Johnnyster" and that was my nick here too but I changed it cuz I got teased that it sounded gayish (with all respects to the gay community, and Nesh...he he).

If youre interested, I can send you some of the local spiders from over here. I just dont know the shipping laws to Canada, we could just discuss it in a pm

Krawll

hello again people , i found two more spiders this week. One was at the very beginning of the week , like sunday night or maybe monday. The other one was last night. Both at my working place. Both brand new species to me Smile

I captured the one i found last night and i put her in a pickle jar with a small branch and a leaf.  I didn't put any substrate because this is only a temporary container . I'll transfer it into a biger one like my other pets if i decide to keep her longer. For now i'm just gonna try and get as much info as i can about it and i'll take my decision after that.

So far the things i noticed are that they like to climb and stay on top of things ::lol::. But they can also build temporary refuge by curling the side of a leaf to create a cylindre shape and hide inside the hole.  I didn't read that on any website ::lol::. I saw her do it . I saw her building it and hide inside it for about 30 minutes , the the cricket i put in there started wandering around and walked on top of her curled leaf and she came out right away. She didn't go back inside after that. Right now she has climbed all the way to the top of the small branch that i put in there and she has been staying there for at least the last 2-3 hours. The cricket has been in there with her for 4-5 hours and she hasn't touched it yet.  I sure hope that this species can feed on crickets otherwise i'm gonna have to release her .

I've just released my little jumper today cuz he was too hard to feed.  Catching flies is not an easy task . Tansfering it from one container to another isn't easy eighter.

So anyways , enough talking hehe , the first series of pictures will be the one i captured last night and the second will be the other one from earlier this week. I only have poor quality pictures of the second one though. My camera ran out of batteries after the 4rth picture hehe.

first pic is kinda funny hehe, this is how she was when i first saw her. She's way too big to fit in that crack ::lol::.

this last picture is from inside her temporary container.

here is a little video of her running around : - http://s283.photobucket.com/album...ion=view&current=DSCN2735.flv

second spider now

Sorry, the camera ran out of batteries before i could take some size comparison pics. That spider seemed kinda agressive, it raised her front legs at me whenever i was getting close. She didn't move a bit , other than raising her legs. She was putting her legs back down as i backed away from it . Almost as if she was warning me hehe.  I could almost read that spider's mind saying stuff like : Aiight bro, stop right there, thats as close as you're gonna get or else you'll feel my fangs up your @$$ hehe.    I wish i can see that one again so i can get some more pictures of it .

I'm more concerned about the first spider though. If one of you guys think he might know the family , maybe i could do the rest of the research myself but unless i have something to start with , i don't know what to look for.

thx in advance
Krawll

Another small detail i noticed about the new spider i captured, it's legs's disposition and shape is almost the same as the Cheiracanthium meldei i posted in another post from this thread. The mouth parts are also pitch black, exactly like the C. meldei .  Their abdomens are diferent though so it can eighter be that the slim one is the male and the fat one is the female . Or they are two diferent species from the same family maybe. If they are from the same family, i should see it start building a web sac very soon i guess, since C.meldei is a sac spider. Another similarity i noticed is that the tips of both those spider's legs are black.

ok i think thats about it for now . I'll keep posting anything i see , that could be of interest.
Krawll

Hahaha, hey Andrew you I.D. ed my spider without even replying to my post ::lol::.

You posted two pictures there of probably yourself handling a C. Mildei.  Yeah sorry i spelled it wrong in my last posts Smile  anyways , the spider on the pictures you posted there is close enough to the one i found so i guess that confirms it that the spider i found is a female C.Mildei and the 4 other specimens i had found in the past 3 weeks were probably males . They also had biger palps and i know that biger palps means male for wolf spiders so it's probably the same thing for other species as well Smile

You also mentioned on one of your posts from that forum that you would like to try and breed them . Well if my new friend ever lays an egg sac , i'll be glad to send it to you and i will not charge you more than the shipping cost. I'm not here to make money and breeding spiders isn't part of my plans for the moment.

I'm still curious to know your opinion on my spider's I.D.  Smile   If you can confirm it as a C. Mildei.

thx in advance as usual hehe Smile

true spiders, i think since they have such relatively complex palpal processes compared to taras, defintely can show differences in palps a molt or two before maturity in males

i wouldn't really be able to confirm confirm from pics (which i can't see at work, i will try to remember to look at home) but i could tell you if it looks like it to me or not Smile

@krawll: the last spider you linked is a philodromid (running crab) spider
Krawll

Thx Pulk for that quick I.D.

Are crab spiders normaly agressive?? Towards humans i mean of course hehe.
I'm wondering cuz normaly , when i approach a spider, she will eighter stand still and hope for the best or simply run away from me. That one didn't run or move at all and as i approached her, she lifted her front legs so she was definatly paying attention to me .  I'm gessing it was more like a warning than anything else but still. That little thing had some guts hehe. Even though it looks kinda big on the picture, that thing was about half the size of the other one i linked in the same post. And you can easily see the size of the other one since i put a quarter right next to it in some of the pics so that crab spider was pretty small. She could probably not even cover my finger tip . Well maybe with her legs fully extended, she might be able to reach both sides of my finger.

Anyways hehe, i was only asking out of curiosity more than anything else. Even if it is agressive, i'm sure it's bite is probably comparable to a bee sting like most other spiders of that size.

thx again for I.D.

that front leg lifting thing is quite common for crab spiders in my experience

i don't know exactly what they are doing but it seems along the lines of a "i am big and scary" thing.  well, actually i don't know... maybe they have sensor hairs they are optimizing the exposure of.  cuz it seems like a lot of the time when arm raising is a ~defensive behavior the spider's movement gets quicker and like, more jerky... but the crabs move slower if anything when waving, again, ime.

i have played with ALL kinds of local spiders and exotics and the only thing that ever bit me for sure was a Venezeulan suntiger tara baby.... cuz i accidentily pressed down pretty hard on its front legs when it was running up my arm at lightspeed.  i have pics of playing with a giant Olios crab spider my bro caught for me on his honeymoon (and miracle of miracles, his wife was excited for him to give it to me! she rocks)

I tried handling an Olios I got from this guy in Diamond Bar as soon as I got it home but it was too stressed. It was in a big ziploc bag, kinda like when you buy crickets. Every time it touched my hand it went running back up the bag. I left it alone after putting her in her new home and was going to wait a couple of days again after feeding her but WHAM !.....here comes an egg sac and she sealed herself so now Ive got a bunch of lil foos all over the place.
Krawll

hahaha. that seems to happen alot to people capturing spiders lately . I guess i have to consider myself lucky , none of the spiders i captured so far have made egg sacs .

Oh and Andrew , if my C.Mildei lays eggs , will you take them??
I'm just asking cuz i saw your post on that other forum saying you were trying your luck with those yellow sacs . i forgot to check the date though. You could've posted that 10 years ago and i wouldn't even know it ::lol::. I only ended up on that forum by googling Cheiracanthium mildei for pictures. By the way , i captured another one just last night. So if i'm correct, the first one i captured was a female C.m. and the second one would be a male. I guess if anyone wants their eggs i could try to breed them but i've never done it before so for the moment they are in two separate jars. And the male is still young compared to the other males i've seen before him. Now the only question that remains is whether they can eat crickets or not . If they can't , then i won't be able to feed them in the winter when the only feeders available are gonna be whatever they sell at the pet store. They only sell crickets and mealworms. I know they do feed on many different kinds of very small flies because i've seen one eating those tiny flies eighter last week or the week before but i don't have a permanent source of flies .

I think i'll keep them for a week with a cricket in eatch container and if they haven't touched the cricket after a week, i'll release them . Or if anyone wants them  by then, i'll ship them both to that  person. Smile

People who could be potentialy interested, plz send your request by pm. thx Smile

well, there is the leetle problem of a border between us... and SCABIES only supports the legal import/export of wildlife.

it would be possible to legally ship them... but not cheap at all...

@johnny.... dude! PLEASE tell me that the Olios was caught in Diamond Bar!
Krawll

Does that mean you guys are allowed to send spiders but not to receive them??

I'm sorry i know what shiping means but not cheaping ::lol::. I just assume it means import.
Johnny

Caco,,, the guy posted an ID req on AB and he PMd me telling me that it was mine if I would go pick it up so I did. He said that it scared the bejesus out of his wife and that it was by the chimmeny (to hell with spell check). That thing is BIG but gentle natured. I will start to seperate the slings probably on Sunday. Thats the Olios in one of the pics I posted.

I smell a bug hunt in Diamond Bar. I know of two trails we can hit up.

Sunday???
