Found this awesome little creature... WARNING HUGE pics

I'm looking for an ID, I'd like to know what sp. I've found in my yard through the different seasons of the year, so, with that said, here it is.

It is an orb weaver of sorts, likes to use debris and builds a semi-cover nest out of it. Looked to be about 1 cm body length.

Any ideas?

it totally reminded me of a sloth ;p
cacoseraph

ha! it does look like a sloth!  that's great

I think it's a "House Spider" (Achaearanea tepidariorum), but let me check...

Not at all. Rolling Eyes

It is most likely an Metepeira sp. or an Araneus sp.(imo the former is more likely than the latter).

(Edit: also, A. tep is an outdated taxon. Parasteatoda is the current genus.)

I'll agree with Kevin.

The spider on the picture is an Araneidae while most of the pictures from the link Celeste provided were Theridiidae. I've personnaly never found an Araneidae inside a house or building . They would rather use door frames or window frames outside the house to build their webs. A Theridiidae will have no problem at all sneaking in and build a web inside the house ::lol:: or garage or mailbox :-)

I'm gonna go with Araneus Sp. as well. Smile

awesome Smile
Thanks for the responses everyone Smile
It was found in the lower branches of a peach tree, with relatives living nearby in the aloe vera below.

If it helps, it does build an orbish web, where she attaches a line right in the middle and pulls it taunt towards her hide, IMO it allows her to be in the hide and "know" the moment anything lands on the web.

She is great looking though, like I said, thank you all Smile
