griffith park sidecar rally '08this has been going on for almost 40 years. starts at approx 8 a.m. and ends around 2-4. people just ride in and picnic. very family orientated. your kids must be well behaved enough to know not to touch with out asking. some people have ridden in from the east coast; and some are bringing something back from a rusted hulk.
brief history;
back around the turn of the century ( the one before this last one ) before Henry ford had made cars inexpensively available for the working masses. cars were hand made one at a time affairs. only the well-to-do could afford them. people used the bicycle or after 1900 the motorized bicycle. well it was cheaper. what if a man had a date, or a family, or a job that required more than a strap-on bag of tools?
the answer was the side-car.

i will be there with a '58 bmw conversion with attached steib s250 sidecar. it is a work in progress. it runs. it has not been restored. but it has been well taken care of.
a vehicle has only one chance to be original.
P.S. henry ford killed the sidecar.

not really. my first bmw bike i bought for aprox 3 B. smithi f with 1 male thrown in. motorcycles are cheap to use and operate. used ones cheaper. every year try to fix something and leave it better than you found it.

there was an early gull wing at bobs bigboy not to long ago. i was not sure if it was orig. or kit but it seemed to be orig. BUT no one leaves that kind of car where people are as careless as they are thru normal life in that kind of situation.

If I won SuperLotto, I'd buy a DeLorean and a Hummer H1. And maybe a '57 T-Bird with the porthole. Oh -- and a Mercedes 190 SL (the old ones from the '50s).

Hello,
I have a couple of custumers that have orinal Gullwings, they belong to a club that meet once a year in Huntingthon Beach. Each vehicle must be registered, even if the car has parts from other cars each piece has a serial number that need to be registered.
So my custumers cars are not 100% originals they both share [arts from 2 other cars.
Celeste, as soon as I can in a couple years my next veheicle will be and H1, I thought about getting a humbie but they are just too plain.
I like the ones that are street ready.
regards

celeste - there is a DeLorean club with some local members. i have seen them at bob's big boy. Not every friday but two or three X's a year there will be 4 or 5.
my parents used to own a renault dauphine a very small car. i was very young and do not remember it. my mom said the 6 of us getting out of it looked like a clown show. a small car, yet still another person would pop out.
i do remember the panard and the citroen my father had when i was young. they were fun.
i have a warm feeling for corvairs, citroens, panhards, the international travel all. chevy panel wagons, morris minor woody's, renault 16's & 5's (le car), open wheel roadsters, and teardrop trailers. oh yeah and packards. i do not want to own them all at once, just one at sometime in my life. i want to leave them just a little better than i found them.
i know someone who worked in an automusem. i am sure it was not a perfect job........but close.

wow those are some nice rides...
???? with the enclosed cars do you havet to wear a helmet?????
|
lizmotobike
|
i always wear a helmet. technically it is a three wheeled vehicle. i do not believe you have to have a specail license either. i don't like the lack of attention most drivers give to driving. ride like they are out to get you cause they are.
