Hogna Carolinensis

Well, Thank you again Johnny for this beauty!

I will post pics later in the night but for now I just wanted to share the H. carolinensis molted last night.

I had noticed it "climbing" and positioning itself on the side of the container, but I had thought it wanted to escape!

Well, this morning I found the exuvia and the freshly molted wolf roaming around the enclosure.

Aren't  they wonderful little guys? I have from Joe and one of Johnny's babies. Is this your first wolf spider?
They do climb. You will read that they can not climb but both of mine can climb plastic. Especially if you mist the sides- the dried water drops give them grip.
One of my babies climbs up the side and sticks is leg out when it wants to be fed. It is the only time that spider does it and it is usually around the day that I need to feed it.  Very Happy

This was really weird, I left home on Wednesday the 13th, before I left I noticed H. carolinensis had molted on the night of the 12th. As some of you may know, there was an incident that led to the temperatures of the room to change drastically within one day. Today, Saturday 17th I came back only to find that it had MOLTED AGAIN!!!!

This one is HUGE now!!!! I have to take and post pics of the new molt ( I have pics from the 13th when it was "freshly molted"), but TWO molts in 4 DAYS!!!!!!

I didn't know it could be possible!!!!

Here it is:

Is the black underside used to absorb heat? Or is there another theory or known use of it?

Just had to get the "face" shot

VERY cool picture! Love that face Smile
Celeste

Yeah!  Beautiful face on that spider!  (That's one of the reasons I love Wolf Spiders).

I just love these. Here's an update on mine. After 310 days, she molted yet again.

Hey Ron, if you see this thread, i'd like to ask you if you know the guy that bought the male H. carolinensis at the Bugfair.

I think she is getting to molt again...

Hello Oscar,
Dale is a member of the Lorquin society.
We can get his contact info without a problem.

Cool, I'd be really interested if she really is getting to molt. I'd like to try breeding this sp.
