ID needed: Haplopelma sp.

This guy was sold to me as a "Vietnam Black Velvet", it looked much darker brown, obviously pre molt. It molted last week and I wanted to see if anyone may think it could be H. minax ? My other H. sp. Vietnam, doesn't look anywhere this dark.

Here is my other one:

Any ideas?

Hello Matt,
Just an educated guess and not specific confirmation.

I think you have H longipes, but not really  H minax

Idk what it is, but those pictures make me want a haplo species (I've never kept one)

Why not H albostriatum?

Alec are you being serious or kidding???

Hello All,
Matt,
I think you have two species or the second one might be a subadult male.

Hello All,
Alec H albostriatum is a smaller specie and has a lot more white bands.

not as mean as the bigger ones but it is also a pet hole if you give them the oportunity.

Oh sorry bro, I thought you may have been pulling my leg...  Laughing

Francisco, the other is the same size and female. (Both are girls), the other one molted about a month ago. That one was described by a Hap dude on ATF as a H. longipes. This one is much darker, and matches several minax pics I've seen on the web????

Hello Matt,
I have seen H minax with much less pattern on the abdomen. The pattern on the first one is not as marked as on the second one, but it is also not as subtle as in H minax.

The pattern in the abdomen is the only think that makes me guess it not an H minax.

But again this is just a guestimation based on not 100% reliable features (such as color and pattern)

Both of them are really nice.

Thanks for the compliment Francisco, but they are far from nice, mean friggin b**ches is more like it!!!  Very Happy The top one is god awful, but I love her... ::lol::
Celeste

That top one is *GORGEOUS*!  I've never seen such a beautiful velvety black on a T before!
Matt Kogler

She is a sweet Hap. I just hope to get a positive ID on her, I am not even going to think about breeding her until I have a poss ID.

though  the guy is not sure of the ID, I thought it looked like something you may want to watch.

Amazing! It looks very much like my spider. I wonder what the possibility of this T is having come from Thailand and not Vietnam?
Celeste

Well, Thailand and Vietnam are not very far apart...  So it is entirely possible for the same species to be from both countries.
