Intro...

Hi SCABIES members,

Michael here.  I found out about the group during my visit to the annual Bug Fair at the Museum.  I've been in SoCal for almost a year and a half now, and I really connect well with the land and the people here.  I look forward to going on some collecting trips, both with the group and with anyone else who wants a collecting companion and a good excuse to head out of town!

I've been interested in spiders and their kin since I was a young child.  I've always been fascinated by T's and especially venomous spiders, insects, snakes, and other venomous critters.  BTW, I just viewed some nice photos of Phoneutria spp. (Ctenidae family) at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/techuser/sets/72157603167029346/.  That is one awesome genus of spiders!

I received my Bachelors Degree in Agricultural Science from Colorado State University (Ft. Collins, CO). My degree concentration focused on insect pests and plant diseases of crops and Integrated Pest Management.  During my studies, I had the opportunity to learn about insect families, taxonomy, etc., and managed to talk a professor into supervising a spider taxonomy and habitat independent study for me.  I really enjoyed doing this project and I learned quite a bit about spiders in the Rocky Mtn region.

Unfortunately, I haven't had any pets for many years because I've moved around so often.  But, I'm open to perhaps having a T pet in the future.  I love going on collecting trips, even though the only thing I really collect is great photos and memories, and the chance to connect with nature.

I look forward to meeting folks and having a good time!

Michael

Nice to meet you, Michael!  (You should post in the "Introduce Yourself" thread).

Nice thing about inverts is you can go away for a week and they'll still be O.K.!

Hello Michael,

Good to have you here. The "wandering spider" is one HOT item, but they sure are great looking animals.

Wouldn't mind having a trio of them, in a double enclosure though Wink.

Hope to see you at the BBQ's and hunts.
