July 12, 2008 BBQ in the Abyss

July 12, 2008 BBQ in the Abyss

hmm. maybe i need to rethink the title there

Next BBQ is SATURDAY July 12, 2008  at Eddy's house (in Lost Angeles somewheres)

3069 Cudahy St. Huntington Park Ca, 90255
There will be driveway parking and street parking but if for some reason a neighbor is having another even then parking might be difficult.

START TIME: ~11am

There will be a door prize raffle, a normal raffle, hopefully at least one breeding demonstration (cacoseraph is going to try to bring my mature male Calisoga longitarsus to pair with Francisco's female.  wburke17 is going to bring a MM Poecilotheria ornata to pair with Kyle's female.  i think.)

This is most definitely a wet BBQ, so bring your brain picklers!

This is, as with all the BBQs, something of a pot luck affair.  Please check out the food list ( http://scabies.myfreeforum.org/about1846.html ) and bring enough food for 4-6 people.  Please respond to the food thread or at least email cacoseraph@yahoo.com or one of the other SCABIES SuperMods to let us know what you will be bringing

Abyss BBQ Specials:
Our own Nbond1986, a founding father and all around cool dude, will be leaving the country for a year to take an amazing opportunity to teach high school in Bolivia.  As such, he will be bringing his whole collection to sell piecemeal or in groups.  You can see what he has available here: http://scabies.myfreeforum.org/about1893.html

~Abyss~

I'll post the adress soon. It's in Huntington Park.
~Abyss~

Okay, Heres my adress:
3069 Cudahy St. Huntington Park Ca, 90255
There will be driveway parking and street parking but if for some reason a neighbor is having another even then parking might be difficult.

My phone #: is not gonna be working untill the 15 but starting This saturday I will be using this number for a few days. 323-206-8257

Anyone that wants to help clean up sometime this week it would be appriciated. There still some debri to clean up but I cleaned up 3 truckloads of stuff already from the construction. If not then it'll just be me and my neighbor David.
vixvy

Hope I can hitch with someone hehehehe!
~Abyss~

You'll make it here even If I have to pick you up myself. I owe you like 30 bucks anyways.
Celeste

Vixvy:  let people know what area you will be in, and I'm sure someone will offer to swing by if it isn't too far out of their way (and maybe even if it *is*)

Eddy:  I can't help this weekend, but next weekend is a long weekend, and I could help on either Thursday (7/3) or Saturday afternoon (7/5), if either of those would work for you.

-- Celeste
~Abyss~

Thanks C, I'll let you know later on in the week. I wanted to dedicate this weekend to cleaning but I work OT this weekend.
Celeste

Hey, you can't beat OT pay!

-- C
~Abyss~

Yeah..but since I have no dependents I don't get much I just really need the money. I think I'm gonna adopt my neice.
Celeste

I have about 100 dependents, not counting the kid, the roach colonies, the fruitflies, and the feeder crickets.

;-)

-- C
BugMom

I have a dumb question.  What TIME is the BBQ?  I have to go to a family party, but I was hoping we could swing by afterwards.
Celeste

BugMom,

unless Eddy states differently, they usually start around 11 am and go until about 4 or 5 pm.

-- Celeste
~Abyss~

That works for me.
Johnny

Ey wey,,.... I already made the ceviche. It should still be good in two weeks huh?..... Foo, if not.....just add a chet load of Tapatio & wash it down with Tequila to kill all harmful bacteria and salmonella,,,,,, que no?

I gotta replace Andrew's bottle of Tequila he left at my casa es su casa the last BBQ. Maybe I'll just refill the bottle with some cheap Jose Cuervo stuff, he wont know the difference....que no?
Celeste

Johnny:  you want the ceviche to keep, just put it in a dark place in your garage...  Or add some tequila to it now -- that'll preserve it.
noexcuse4you

OK, so one of my scorps escaped.  It crawled from the living room into the bedroom and under my girlfriend's pillow the other night causing her to wake up screaming in my face telling me to get rid of them so now the scorps have to go.  If any of you want the scorps from this thread (the haddy is taken) let me know, otherwise they're getting pinned to a board.

WBurke17

I'm interested in the first 2 pictured..
I'll also bring along my female P.ornata to pair up w/ the male @ the BBBBBQ for a demo..
Warren
~Abyss~

I'll take em. Bring em by.
vixvy

See you all!!!!!! at last........
~Abyss~

We nee a few thing for the bbq. I have one table and 5 chairs already. So more wouldn't hurt. A canopy would be nice for this summer weather there will be inside acces to my living room(tv), dining room (more chairs), and the kitchen. Outside there will be access to our new garage/room which is vacant but we can set a table there for bug or whatever.
Utensils, paper cups, paper plates (I have a few leftover cups and plates here already) and of course food.
Emo Cinderella Boi

once again i need a ride to the bbq, i will help pay gas.  also if anyone is interested on some rare sling i'm trying to get rid of my sling collections they are mostly rare slings. I'm willing to trade for some adult females for them. example of the slings bring are L klugi, A Atrox, high end brachy slings, and many more
WBurke17

Hey Emo you can probably hitch a ride w/ me again. as long as you dont get lost this time Wink
Jules

I saw somebody on AB with a Riverside address so I sent her an invite to our BBQ next weekend! She said she had heard of our group but don't think she's talked to anyone before. Both herself and her boyfriend have T's. I hope they can make it.

Hmmm.... this sounds familiar. For some reason "Celeste" comes to mind...  Rolling Eyes
Johnny

Emo man,,,, I'll give you a ride.
wr3sd

I'd be happy to bring some paper plates, cups & plastic utensils. Myself even, if there's any room.

hey Johnny just let me know what time are you going to pick me up. thanks men
wr3sd

I must have goofed something -- was going to say my car should be fine for the trip up there, was being facetious about the several tons of paper plates & cutlery :p

Nice of you to make the gesture, whomever it was directed to! Smile
~Abyss~

I finally got a lot of the construction stuff cleared out of the way for the bbq but sadly my lawn suffered. Half my back lawn is dead so I hope you guys don't mind. It's about 50% cement anyways.
noexcuse4you

Sweet, someone bring some chalk and a ball and we can play 4 Square!
lizmotobike

i will bring some chicken. hopefully precooked .
cacoseraph

i'm running late. will be to the bbq by noon at the latest
What

Im not going to be at the bbq. It wouldnt be worth it to drive up and only stay for an hr or two.

Hope you all have fun!

Francisco/Warren/Whoever send me a pm about the P. cambridgei male and I will ship him out sometime this week.
~Abyss~

Looks like we have a couple of Thank You threads going. I'll echo the sincere thanks in my other post but also suggest that we beg people to post their recipes that they brought. The food was super.

I don't know if Kyle mentioned it, but we left the 5 spiders Pulk gave fore us to bring on the back right corner David's table and couldn't find their owners/forgot we put them there after a while. There were three widows and two teeny weeny spiders- for Rob and ???? Did they end up where they were going?
ogershok

Here's the group photo -

Jules

Wow! We had a lot of SCABIES there and that was after so many people left. Too bad we didn't take an earlier group shot also. We would have needed 2 shots to get everyone anyway!! That was a great BBBQ! I'm so glad I could make it. Thanks again Eddy!
Emo Cinderella Boi

pics

Johnny

Dang it,,,i missed the group pic.

Emo, for sure.
Ronin

Absolutely great time.  Thanks again to Eddy of course for hosting this, all the folks who brought bugs, food, drinks, canopies, cooked, hung out, etc.  We even had some entertainment with Chloe, Dave, and Nesh showing off their juggling skills (I liked the paranoid juggler...even I can do that).

Also want to thank everyone who participated in the raffle.  A great big thanks to Lauryn and Kassie who made it easier and more fun for me calling out all those winning tickets.   Very Happy

Celeste

When are you going home?
noexcuse4you

What?! No pics of the Juggling Buffoon?  Ok, here's one.  I'd also like say that I had a GREAT time at the bbq as well!  I'm glad to have finally met those of you who I didn't previously meet at the bug show in May.  I hope to be able to come to more events like this in the future!

cacoseraph

vixvy

we might not be able to do a BBQ but maybe we can arrange a hike & hunt or two
vixvy

Oh thanks Andrew and Celest. I will go back on the 11th of August. Hope I will be able to attend on your chosen date.
Celeste

We might be able to do an informal dinner get-together.  You're in Walnut, vixvy?  Maybe we can find a place in the Glendora area to converge for a Friday evening.  A bunch of us from the San Gabriel Valley could probably make it.

-- Celeste
Steven

Ill do the wastelands and hills  ..soon.  Bug me if interested (or interested in similar thoughts n' destinations.) Wink

I'm pretty sure she was my Chaco girl by the time we did that. Wink We'd actually been arranging it on this forum a week ahead of time.

Don't worry, I'll save you some slings for when you get back from Bolivia and Canada! They won't actually be slings by then but I'll set a few aside for you so you can have another Chaco girl!

By the way, I felt kind of guilty for buying the P cambridgei because I REALLY did not need it and had already spent too much money. However, now I am really glad I did. That T is awesome! It will rip a huge dubia right out of the tongs! I rehoused her today while her mouth was full and it went very smoothly as planned. I'll try to post pics of her (I'm hoping) in her new house tomorrow! She rocks!

I am going to rehouse the GBB tomorrow. I'm very happy to have her as well since my big  GBB girlie is going to Ryan in a trade for a P metallica sling on Thursday!

Thanks for all of them! Smile
