NBond1986

Darn it.

I'm coming home from Bolivia on June 5th, after a year of being away from home.

And you chose my Dad's birthday to have the BBBQ!!!!

This is absolutely terrible for me.

Is there any way that the BBBQ can be on Sunday, the 21st???

I know it's selfish of me to request this.....but c'mon.....I've been away for a year, and I'm a founding member!

Sad
Celeste

Nesh,

why didn't you say something before they chose the date?  They had a thread for that...

And??????

You attend the Q in the afternoon and then enjoy your dads B-day in the evening. best of both worlds...

Also the poll was up for like a month on what date to choose. did you vote?
ogershok

I can make jalepeno pickled eggs again. Maybe a bit hotter than the last time?
noexcuse4you

I'll bring pasta salad.
delikorkmaz

The BBQ trade/barter thread didn't work for me; maybe this is better? http://scabies.myfreeforum.org/about3595.html

I'd love to bring fresh corn, but given the long drive, how would the logistics work?  I could cook it at home and bring it but we'd need a way to reheat it, or I would have to impose on our host's stove...would this be acceptable or should I bring something less controversial, like a salad?
ogershok

I'll bet that our gracious hosts have a microwave that might work. If not, bring Porterhouse steaks for everyone. Very Happy
AGTrauger

Fire roasted corn is THE BEST  Very Happy If there's a BBQ there you just wrap the ears with butter in tin foil and toss on the grill Wink

There you go, I like that.  So as long as it's good with John, that's my plan.  How much should I bring?

Need to carpool

Hi all,
I'm new to the group and would very much like to attend.  I don't have a vehicle at this time and am requesting to carpool with someone.  I live in the Hollywood area.  My contact info is:
fsorganizing@gmail.com or cell 310-339-8128

If I can find a ride, I will be bringing ground beef patties and buns for the grill.

Michael
balam

Hello, I'd like to bring some Ice Cream for the peeps Wink.
The heat is on and I'm a grump without my Ice Cream so I'll bring some Dreyers or Breyers?

any suggestions or should I just go with Vanilla?
WBurke17

chocolate syrup, bananas, peanuts, caramel, whip cream.... Hint Hint Sundaes Smile
balam

Well being that i am made of money Rolling Eyes ha ha ha.

Let me see what I can do, count on the Ice Cream and the Syrup, I might be able to take bananas as well, but if anyone else wants to bring some of the other items it would be great Smile
twirl and kill

ill bring myself ......finally a close BBQ.
WBurke17

Wow could this be the infamous Dave?
It will be good to see you again bro...
GOMER113

Oh, how I wish I could go to this one!  If by some miracle I'm able to go, I will bring Karl Strauss beer (probably an IPA and a Hefeweizen) and the hookah pipe, if our hosts wouldn't mind.
Celeste

Don't bring anything illegal.  A lot of us do not want to be around anything illegal.
balam

Gomer is a stand up guy, hooka pipe is just for hooka, though I do thank you for the disclaimer Celeste Smile
Le Wasp

BBQ stuff

As far as cookery goes, I'll have a microwave, stove, oven, toaster oven, and two charcoal barbecues (more like 1.5 bbqs) that everyone's free to use.  The food list looks pretty good so far!

Oh yeah, I also have a ps2 and a wii, if anyone would like to play them Smile  (I just got the wii, so I don't have many games for it yet...  bring your own if you'd like)  There's also a dart board for the more physically inclined gaming.
balam

Ohh dart board, we can whip Warren on that Laughing
WBurke17

Keep dreaming boys!!!!!
Should I bring my soft tip or steel tip darts?
noexcuse4you

I might bring a tri-tip also.  Depends if its on sale or not.  That seemed to be a great hit at Andrew's going-away party.
balam

That tri-tip was pretty good man.

Is anyone near Michael?
crash714

I'll bring a bucket of fried chicken

It's a brush dartboard, so go ahead and bring the steel tips.  I'll also have darts around to use.
ogershok

I bought the eggs last night so I'm totally committed. BTW - the hookah was really fun and enjoyable at Andrew's going away party. And totally legal too!
Also - Who is the "infamous Dave?" I was under the  impression that was me.

No worries, as I am among the "lot of us" who don't want anything illegal around.  Cool  And as Oscar mentioned, all that will be smoked will be hookah tobacco -- 100% unquestionably legal and delicious.

Thanks for backing me up on that, Oscar!

Not only legal and delicious but I'd swear it has no nicotine. I filled my lungs to their max capacity many times that night and no nicotine buzz. I saw voluminous clouds of smoke coming out but no buzz. I want my buzz!!! Crying or Very sad

I didn't even know there was a voting thread. I can't get on the website all that often, and it's not easy.
Don't forget my internet is garbage down here. It's hard enough to log on to the site first of all, and forget about posting.
Just making this post is costing me lots of time already.

Hahaha

Just look at what city I'm from.
Judging by stereotypes, you'll probably be able to guess what nationality makes up a large portion of my blood line.

This crap has been a part of my culture for thousands of years. In fact....we practically invented it.

However....
I might just be putting my foot in my mouth, if yours turns out to be better. That would be both lame and hilarious for me.
GOMER113

I was just having a little fun with you.  I know about your Armenian roots, so I'm sure whatever you've got will put my pipe to shame.  For all I know, you probably have one that your grandfather made for you when you were 5.  Your post from yesterday made me laugh because it made me think that you saying you have a better pipe than me is like me saying my mom can make better chilaquiles than yours... no brainer (and no offense to your mother's cooking, either).  Still, bring yours!
ogershok

I'll probably bring one of my pipes too as usual. However, my smoking mixture (totally legal) has enough nicotine in it to kill a blue whale. Ok, maybe just a gray whale but you get the idea.  As a related but somewhat off-topic contribution, I'm growing three tobacco plants right now. Walker's Broadleaf. Big suckers already.
NBond1986

How dare you.

My the taste of my mother's Chilaquiles are none of your business. Plus you've never even seen them. She's always dressed well, and completely covered up.

as for the Armo thing.....yeah.

Armenians from Iran. That's my Dad's side of the family.

My mom's side is all Welsh and Austrian.

So uh.....my Viennese pastries are better than yours too.

But look on the plus side......at least you don't look like Hagrid from HP (Welsh, by the way)....like I do Sad

im just a ball of hair.
NBond1986

I used to do drugs. I mean, I still do, but I used to too.

AGTrauger

You guys are making me want to take up smoking again (cigarettes not hookah)  tongue2
balam

You all are so funny when off-topic. Looks to be shaping into a fun BBQ
Celeste

Hey, folks

what do you all think about trying to accommodate Nesh's request (to possibly move the BBQ to the next day, Sunday the 21st)?

Personally, I had looked forward to this BBQ as a sort of "welcome home" party for Nesh as well, and it seems a shame to hold it on a day when he really wants to be with his father.

I think it would mean a lot to him if we could move it.  It's still three weeks away, so folks still have time to juggle their schedules around.

What do you think?

-- Celeste
ogershok

It works for me. How about the folks hosting? They're perhaps the key players.
GOMER113

Hey Nesh,
I told you not to participate in any Political Sh** over there. Look what that did to you, or is it your Iranian/Armenian blood talking?

I'm ok with moving the BBQ as well. It would be a shame if Nesh wasn't able to make it because we were being snobs about the day. ::lol::.
WBurke17

If it changes to Sunday then we need to make sure that everybody is aware of the change of date..
Herpetologyfrk

21st is fine with me  Very Happy
crash714

I can't make it on the 21st, Its my best friends Bday party.

                                          Eric
rosenkrieger

The 21st would actually work out better for me, anyway. I always have sunday's off, so I wouldn't have to worry about requesting the day off and then wondering if I'll get it or not.
delikorkmaz

Just to add to the chaos, y'all know the 21st is Father's Day, right?

(Though it's all the same to me, my Dad is 3,000 miles away)
Celeste

Oh, poo!  And the following weekend (the 27th/28th) is the Reptile Super Show in San Diego, and the weekend after that is 4th of July weekend...

How 'bout we do another poll to ask folks if they could do the 21st or if we should stick with the 20th?

I put one up here:
http://scabies.myfreeforum.org/about3651.html&highlight=
GOMER113

What about moving it to the previous weekend 13/14?  Sorry if it's been discussed and shot down, as I obviously would have missed it.
ogershok

How about we kidnap Nesh's Dad and bring him to the BBQ?
noexcuse4you

I think Nesh's dad lied to him and said his birthday's on the 20th so he can have 2 days dedicated to him in a row.
Herpetologyfrk

ogershok wrote:

I second that
crash714

We should have the BBQ at Nesh's house like we had a few years ago, problem solved, haha Laughing
Celeste

Would people prefer the 13th or 14th instead?

That's coming up pretty quickly...
WBurke17

thats the problem, the date was already set and to try to change things in such a short notice is hard. if iys on Sunday I wont be there and I've never missed a BBBQ. Fathers day and already have plans. we can always do a welcome home dinner for Nesh..

I agree with Warren,

francisco
Celeste

O.K. -- I'll see if I can take down the poll on changing the date.

Sorry, Nesh -- it looks like we're stuck with the 20th.  But we'll try to make it up to you.

Warren:  I can't delete the poll -- can you do that for me please?
NBond1986

Guys, I really appreciate you all considering it for me.

I'm going to talk to my family and see if I can work something out, because this BBBQ is extremely important to me. Anyone who knew me before I left, knows how important these events are to me.

I'm honored that you guys at least considered something for me. Unfortunately, timing and national holidays are not on my side! But I'm going to do everything I can to be there, but also honor my father.

A little history....

My mom had a brain surgery a month ago to remove tumors, and my dad had a brain hemorrhage (stroke) just two years ago, right around when SCABES got started. Doctors never expected my Dad to live. Said he was a walking miracle (Anyone who was at our first BIG bbbq at my house in November 2007, saw my dad walking with a cane). Same deal with my mother. And thank GOD that they are both alright and alive. It wasn't their time.

This is why my dad's birthday this year was exceptionally important to me. To be with both my mom and dad, who I haven't seen in a year.
I'll be home on Friday! I can't wait.

I don't mind saying this all openly to you guys. SCABIES is my family, even if there are several new members who I have never met.

Anyway, I would never have asked for such a selfish request, like moving a BBBQ. This was a little different.

But I'll do everything I can to be there, but also honor my dad's birthday.

God-willing I'll see you all on the 20th!
Steven

Just reschedule the bbq gosh darnit!

Hi everyone. I am fairly new to this forum and it looks like these BBQs are fun. I was thinking of coming out. I just live an hour or so east in the desert. I was just wondering how many people there may be so I could figure what to bring for food. I don't get out enough, and this sounds like fun. I hope to make it...

Hi everyone,  I am fairly new to this group, I was invited by Noexcuse4you a while back.  A little about me, I'm 28, live in Escondido CA, I've been collecting Tarantulas for about 3 years now and I love them, fascinating creatures.  I have a female pamphobeteus ecuadorian purple that Francisco(who is a great guy) will help me breed with member sntcruzan's(on arachnoboards) male, so I'm really excited about that.  Here is a list of my Tarantula collection:

Acanthoscurria Geniculata - Gabria
Avicularia Avicularia - Vicky
Aphonopelma Eutylenum - Ebony(CA native)
2 Brachypelma Albiceps - Alba & Albert
Female Brachypelma Baumgarteni - Nephira
Female Brachypelma Baumgarteni - Ranya
Brachypelma Boehmei - Maya
Brachypelma Emilia - Emmeline
Ephebopus Uatuman - Esme
Nhandu Chromatus - Coral
Nhandu Coloratovillosus - Zera
F. Pamphobeteus Sp. Ecuadorian Purple - Arianna
Female Phormictopus Cancerides - Kyran

Scorpions:
Centruroides gracilis - Saffron

I will bring some food as well as a few of my T's, any requests?  I hope to get to know everyone here and at the bbq, so that's all for me, thanks guys.
WBurke17

Welcome to the group Brachy. The bbbq's are great way to meet fellow enthuist's.

Welcome aboard Brachybaum, nice list you've got there.
Come on over to the BBQ and mingle with the folks in the board.

DOES ANYONE NEED SUPPLIES OR CRICKETS FROM SUPERIOR ENTERPRISE?
http://superiorenterprise.com/store/
If so, let me know by pm no later than MIDNIGHT THURSDAY.  The crickets are not listed on their website, but are $10 for a box of 1000 (I think for any size).

I'm going there on Friday to pick up supplies for myself, so if you want me to pick up anything for you, and you promise to pay me back in cash at the BBQ, I can pick stuff up and bring it on Saturday.  I *may* only be at the BBQ from 11 am 'til 1 pm, so you'd have to pick it up during that time.

This sounds pretty cool. I see people are brings pipes, I'm guessing they mean like real pipe with fine pipe tobacco. How about fine cigars? Montecristos, CAO, Partagas anyone?
~Abyss~

Montecristos are pretty awesome.

Howdy folks.  The bbq is coming up around the corner!  It looks like the weather gods will be blessing us with a beautiful day of a high of 82 degrees.  I'll be cooking plenty of chicken legs and some burgers.  I might be running out of ketchup, so if someone could bring some, that would be good.

as far as tobacco goes: Hookahs, pipes, etc. are fine here, but all smoking will have to be outdoors.
balam

Hello everybody.
I have received a last minute notice which impedes my attendance to this months BBQ .
I was really looking forward to seeing all the new members and hopefully finally getting to meet the old timer (Nesh), and of course seeing some familiar, and not so familiar faces that don;t come around too often.
I will be sending some inverts with Warren that will be set up for the raffle .

Have fun everybody

Great BBBQ!!!!

Thanks a bunch to everyone.

Wow, made me wish I wasn't going back to Bolivia, so that I could actually take some animals home with me!

I made myself stay away from the animal containers a bit, in general.
It's dangerous to let me near them. I'll be too tempted to buy/take some home and then not be able to keep them come August. haha

Anyway thanks for everything, and it was AMAZING to see everyone, and get sexually violated by Eric, Warren, Steven, Andrew, and of course Earl.

We'll have another BBBQ/get-together in this following month before I leave.
