Just captured a beast :)

Now lets just clarify one thing here before i show it to you Razz
What we consider a beast here in quebec is only a cute little spider compared to what you guys could find in your house in California hehe.

This spider is in fact the same one i talked about in my thread about yellow sac spiders. The first time i saw it , i couldn't see it well and i realy thought is was a yellow sac . I guess i got fooled by the impressive legspan and the yellow-ish abdomen. Now that i captured it, i could get a closer look at it and it's definatly not the same as the C. mildei ( yellow sac) .

I tryed to find it on Bugguide.net and the closest one i could find is this one here : http://bugguide.net/node/view/48531/bgpage

I still don't think it's exactly the same . Maybe they are from the same family , i don't know but i don't think it's the same species.

anyways , here she is :

Here is also a short video of it , it's nothing special, just the spider moving around in the empty coffee jar . And don't worry, as soon as i find out what kinda habitat to reproduce for her i will transfer her in a more confortable container with more room and some substrate + whatever else i might find out that she needs.

If you guys think you could make it to the Genus, i would realy apreciate it . I found it in the small room where i keep my 24 pack of 7 UP cans to keep them cold. It's not freezing cold in there. Right now it's actualy only a little cooler than the rest of the house but in the winter that room becomes realy cold. It's also always dark in there since i only go in there to grab a drink and i never leave the light open.   The only thing i can tell you guys about the spider itself is that even though she can't climb on the glass of the jar, she can easily climb on mostly any other kind of surfaces.  She was captured on the wall of the room and the first time i saw her she was also on a wall but outside the cold room. Maybe 2-3 feet away from the door that leads to it though. Since i only saw her on the walls, my first guess will be arboreal species so i'll have to think about giving her something to climb on when i rehouse her.

Thats about everything i can give for now . If anyone wants to give it a shot at I.D.ing it , fell free my friend hehe.

Thx in advance
Johnny

Cant really tell from the pics. At first glance it looks like a tegenaria but I dont know the ranges or much about them. Unless it some kind of grass spider but I really cant tell. The other guys will be able to give you a better answer.

Thx for trying Johnny Smile

I guess i'll have to take some more pictures and i'll try to take some better ones so we can see the spider better on it.  I'm going to the pet store in a few to buy crickets and also buy the Pink Toe i talked about in another thread and i think i will also buy a new critter box for the unidentified spider i captured yesterday and hopefully once she is inside her new home she will be easier to photograph Smile

I'm guessing the pictures are definatly gonna come out better since there will be some substrate witch means that the light from the flash will not be reflected by the glass . I'll try to picture her from top view, side view and also front view .

If we realy can't get an I.D. on it after that then i guess i'm gonna call her Genus sp. hahaha

later people

Hey again !!

i have new pictures of my spider , those were taken earlier today after i bought her a new critter box , adding substrate ( coconut fibre) and giving her a climbing surface.  She realy seems happy in there seriously.  When she was in the coffee pot jar, she realy didn't seem to like it at all and she kept trying to climb out of it . Even though she can't climb on glass but eversince i rehoused her, she simply took a walk around the container , probably visiting and after a short time she climbed on that wooden shim and she's been holding onto it ever since.

Before i went to bed, i thought she was probably gonna just stay on that wooden shim and come down to hunt the crickets when she was hungry . She hadn't built any webs or anything but now i just woke up and checked back on her and right now she's in the same kind of web as grass spiders Razz Her web is not very big considering she made it behind the little shim witch is about only two inches away from the side of the container so she didn't have alot of room to build on that side. I think i'm gonna add maybe some kinda fake plant in the middle of the container so she can build a new and bigger web between the plant and the shim.

That would also make it easier for me to just drop the crickets straight on the web . It looks like she won't kill anything unless it's in the web . She's been living with a cricket eversince i captured her and haven't touched it. She walked over him without even caring for him. When i rehoused her, i put the cricket in her new house as well and that cricket went to hide behind the shim right beside the spider ::lol::. That was hilarious. The cricket was so sure that the spider wouldn't attack him that he was standing right next to her.  I'm just hoping that now that she made herself a web , she will start eating whatever gets caught in it and if she could make a biger one, i would be happy.

Here are the pics, with new ones to come in about 10 hours from now.

this last picture is just like the others but it's very dark so i don't think it could help for I.D. but i just like the picture because you can see the reflection of the spider on the side of the container right behind the spider and it came out pretty cool. i'm gonna use that one as a background hehe. here it is.

Aiight thats it for now and Johnny i'm realy starting to think you might have hit the mark with the grass spider Smile thx

Anybody else's opinion is still apreciated though Smile   Pulk ?? Andrew ?? Celeste ?? Steven?? i'm curious to know what you guys think  as well hehe.

I'm realy sorry, i did some major clean up in my photobucket albums and i created more sub albums because i'm starting to have way too many pictures of too many different bugs to keep them all piled up in the same bucket.

Again i'm very sorry for breaking all those links. If one of the mods read this eventualy, feel free to delete this whole thread , i will repost the whole progress of this spider in a future thread witch will probably be very soon.

She is a very interesting spider but i still haven't been able to figure out what it is even after i got a nice web. Anyways .......

reposting everything in a brand new thread with a detailed progress shortly. Smile
