Ok, so a couple of days ago i was tinkering with my video camera and happened to catch my L. geometricus catching a small cricket from start to finish.
No biggie right. Well i had never noticed a Widow using this technique.
the cricket got close enough to it that it must have triggered some part of the web.
the spider then moved close enough and with a swift move kicked its last pair of legs to the cricket, tangling it in a single thread of silk.
The cricket fell, doomed for it was stuck to that one single thread.
The widow then simply turned around, pulled him up and encased it with silk web; delivered some bites, arranged it on the web and started to suck the life out of it.
I understand they have "combs" at the ends of those legs precisely to divide the silk into fine threads, but had not seen it in action myself.
I'm trying to figure out ow i can post the video... anyone have any idea?
has anyone witnessed this behavior before?
It's filmed in night vision, and it's about 8 min long.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

If its video'd in digital format, then you can upload on you tube, or photobucket

YES! They can "chuck" a web strand downwards for a long distants or even sideways or upward for short snaggings. Ive witness hesps and geos snagging successfully at a distances of 12" or more. Slings will often build webs above ant highways and pick off ant snacks one by one by throwing a liquidy strand down and pulling up quickly.

My freaking cameras software is not supported by Mac. It's a Sony and the software doesn't work with my Mac, i can purchase a bunch of add-on's to make it work but it's a hassle. I might put it up for sale if anyone is interested. Beautiful camera but it needs a PC or Laptop to be able to download anything!

NO, THE CAMERA ITELF IS GREAT!,
The only problem is that the operating software is not design to work with Macintosh. All around me there are tons of Macs, and the only PC i have access to is at work and it has the old VISTA software which is another royal pain in the buttocks!
When i try to download directly to my Mac the computer just doesn't recognize the format and thus does not even download the vid.
