Hello from far nor Cal I'm going to have an 8 hour plane layover on the 8th in LA. What can be done bug related with no car is it east to just walk outside airport and find a field to flip rocks or is it all concrete jungle. Thanks for any info Chris

I'm assuming you mean LAX, and not Burbank or Ontario? (Burbank or Ontario would be easier).
I don't know personally, but LAX is right next to the ocean and there are open areas nearby (looking at mapquest.com aerial views).
Here's a map of the area north of LAX (LAX is in the lower left corner). There is a big park (Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area) way up in the upper right corner (but it's pretty far away):
To the north west, you can see a small park and an open area just west of Lincoln Blvd. in this image that look promising -- that's a lot closer (LAX is in the lower right):
The small park in the upper left in the image above is Del Rey Lagoon Park:
Where Falmouth Avenue in the lower right dead ends looks promising, but I don't know this area.
There are some other little park areas showing up south of the airport on mapquest, but they are buried in concrete jungles -- I'd get on mapquest and "explore" a bit if I were you.
Does anyone else in scabies know if these are good areas to look?
If you don't get any other info, you could at least try these Chris. Good luck!

there are a few places you can explore during the 8 hrs, assuming it's during daylight hours. but it'll be a bit of walking at least a few miles one way. but the weather should be nice for a long walk. i am very familiar with the area, but never thought of looking for bugs, so i can't say that there'll be any.
there'a protected habitat for the el segundo blue butterfly close by to the west of lax, but it's fenced off, and they aren't out during this time of year.
to walk from the terminal, take sepulveda south, make a right to imperial highway going west, the area is on imperial hwy and pershing. there are some dune areas if you keep walking toward the ocean on vista del mar and turn right. some of the areas are again fenced off but there are a couple road connecting vista del mar and pershing dr.
if you feel adventurous, you can keep hiking north along either vista del mar, which is kinda scenic along the coast, or pershing to culver blvd. there's a wetland area there, but it is pretty dry during this time of year. at the corner of jefferson and lincoln, there's a small wetland reserve where you can hike and explore. there are a few migratory birds in that area.
from there just take lincoln south back to lax. it'll probably take you a good few hours on foot. at any point, if you feel tired of walking or running out of time, and if you can catch a taxi, it should be about $15 ride back to lax.
or you can just enjoy a day at the beach, providing the marine layer doesn't roll in and ruins it for you. for around $20 taxi ride, one way, you can enjoy the day in manhattan, hermosa, and/or redondo beach. they are a couple of miles apart from each other. there're always something to do and see around each of the pier area. if you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of beach vb olympians practicing north of manhattan beach pier.
