Local Beetles As PetsWell I am interested in raising live beetles as pets. I live in the Walnut area of Southern California. What types of local beetles are easy to find and are easy to raise? I have already tried the Green June Beetle and am very happy at how it turned out.

I was trying to get some of the Green Fruit Beetles (Cotinus mutabilis), but I only ever found a single one. :-(
I found about three of the Ten-Lined Beetles (Polyphylla decemlineata), but they were all very small so I was waiting to find some larger ones but never did!
This was a VERY bad year for local beetles! Usually by this time of year I have seen dozens of the Ten-Lined beetles and a half-dozen or so of the Green Fruit Beetles.

Well I have 5 Green June beetles and I have one dried specimen of the 10 lined June beetle. I could never find a live specimen of a 10 lined June beetle.
How do I bait and catch an ironclad beetle?

That's a bit of a schlep, but if you're coming to the BBQ please bring me a half-dozen or so! :-)
