O.K. -- I'll bite:  what the heck is "Forensic Entomology"?  Is that figuring out what killed a bug, or studying bugs in dead people?
rosenkrieger

The latter. Though, I suppose it could include both. ::lol::

Wasn't that Gil Grissom's specialty on CSI? ::lol::  That sounds like an interesting presentation!

Yes, Gil Grissom was a Forensic entomologist.

Forensic Entomology is the use if insects in legal cases.

Forensic Entomology....neat stuff. I dappled in it since I have a investigations background.

A common thing they do to determine time of death is to look for "maggots" on a dead body. They figure out how long a insect takes to get to that "stage" and can kind of guess a time of death.

Also they can figure out if a body has been dumped sometimes if the "insects" on the body are not common to the region the body was found. Like a body with aquatic "insects" in it turning up in the desert.

Insect species in a body can help determine the time of year of death, temperature, location of death, etc, etc.

Does not sound like much info they obtain but, to a good investigator every little bit helps.
