My long lost vinegaroonJust wanted to share as I am so excited to see her again. My vinegaroon "Pickles" back and bigger than ever after 6 months of disappearing underground to hibernate/molt. She's about 3" long now.

"Pickles"?! How'd she get a name like that? :-)
She's a cutie! So you hibernate yours?
Here's my Vinegaroon:
She doesn't really have a name, but if I gave her one I think it would be "Peanut".
Nesh gave her to me at the November BBQ. Her abdomen is looking VERY FAT these days, so I'm kind of hoping she might have babies. But I don't know how long their gestation period is.

(Sorry to say but that looks like a male to me... Really robust claws.)

Cool! 'Cisco had been looking for a male, but he thought mine looked like a female. If mine *is* a male, Francisco might have some hot little chiquitas for him to meet! ;-)
(If it *is* a male, it's also the *fattest* male I've ever seen!) :->
And I can still call him/her/it "Peanut"! :-)

Peanut is gender neutral I think. I also think it looks like a boy. My son named ours "Pickles" because he says she smells like them! I didn't hibernate her on purpose, she made that choice herself. I keep her at room temp all year long. She emerged very skinny, but has already put away three big crickets. I think they're just so interesting.

If you can get ventral pictures I believe these are fairly easy to sex that way.

Will do! Mine is quite handleable, so it should be easy to get a ventral shot. BTW: 'Cisco concurs with your opinion that this one now looks more like a male. (He thought it looked more like a female several months ago). But if you can tell for sure from a ventral picture I'll try to get one later.

I would really like to see or even trade your vini if interested.
I will be taking mine along, I think Celeste might be bringing hers too.
My adult female is long gone and I kept only 4 of her Babies.
Hopefully we can do some mating amongs these guys.
Mine is aroun 3 years old and the babies are somewhere around 2+ years old

Yes, I'm planning on coming at least for a little while. I am very attatched to her (searched the reptile conventions and bug fairs many times for one before I got her from Orin). If you'd like to see her, I can bring her along and if you are interested in rehoming any babies I will bring money!

That's an interesting creature
It's actualy the first time i see something like that but it kind of makes me think of a Whip Scorpion. To be honest , i don't know much about Whip Scoprions eighter ,other than the videos i've seen on youtube incuding Whip scorpions.
Are they somewhat related?? or not at all ?? Other than the fact that they are both arachnids
Thx in advance

You're probably talking about tailess whip scorpions. The first time I saw them was on Fear Factor when they called them "Cave Spiders" and made the contestants eat them. I think they are somewhat related, but other folks on here are way better with taxonomy stuff than I. In one book I read they said "The vinegaroon is so ugly it makes your teeth hurt". I think mine would take offense to that!

goons and tailless whips are both orders in the arachnid class
goons are uropygi - http://bugguide.net/node/view/29746/tree
tailless whips are amblypygi - http://bugguide.net/node/view/4603/tree
incidentily spiders are another order in the arachnid class, called araneae - http://bugguide.net/node/view/1954/tree
