Newcomer to Scorpion Husbandry (and message boards)I was given a Vaejovis puritanus by someone (ftorres?) at the reptile show at Eaton Canyon in May. She's been doing fine, but I noticed she was getting very fat and I became suspicious that she might be pregnant. She had 5 babies yesterday. One died and the other 4 are clinging tightly to her back. Several questions come to mind. How do I feed them (I've been giving her the occassional cricket) and what (flightless fruit flies)? Mom can't climb the walls - can the babies (my co-workers are nervous they will escape)? How long will they stay with her and do they need to be separated and when? Any other info that any of you think might be helpful would be appreciated. Thanks!

Theres no need to start feeding the young untill they leave moms back. They wont leave her back untill after their first molt so you will have 2 instart scorpions. You can buy flightless fruitflies online or at any petco or petsmart. They come in green/blue vials (just make sure they're alive). The scorpions cant climb smooth surfaces but if you have them in the fish tank they can (but mostly don't) climb the the corners with the silicone. Once they come off moms back seperate them into little delicups so that they don't cananbalize.

Or if you don't want the babies, just say the word, and there are a ton of people here who would be happy to take them off your hands! :->
We have a BBQ coming up next weekend, and I'm sure they would find good homes there.

Hello Carol Ann,
I am happy to see you around here.
I am glad to hear that Andrews ex-little scorpion is a girl and now a mom.
Eddy is very knowlgable on the scorpion subject, so I will agree with his advise.
Good luck with the little ones, this experience could be a nice piece of conversation and or a great class presentation.
