OMG -- Phidippus Babies!!!That Phidippus I got at the last BBQ must have been a female, because when I went to feed her this evening, I found about 40 *babies*! Awfully darned cute! But I'm going to have to find some really tiny fruitflies for them -- they are literally the size of pinheads.
Those little black specks all around the top of the cage are them. (Sorry I don't have a camera that does better closeups).
Does that mean the mom is going to die soon? I've gotten kind of attached to her...

it's been about 3 months since my P. octopunctatus slings hatched, and the mother is still going strong.

Hello Celeste,
Try to order or find springtails, they are super small and perfect for the spiders.
The only problem will be that they are terrestrial and don't climb, and I don't know if the spiders will go down to hunt them.
Also try to find some drosophila melanogaster, they are small and I think the spiders will be able to eat them, at least the stronger ones.
good luck

Yeah -- the melanogasters from Petco are teensy.

I let them go in my front yard (yes, they are a local specie) -- it broke my heart to see them all cooped up in a little plastic container. I wanted them to grow up free. Mom is free, too. (Hope the ants didn't eat them all). Last I saw of 'em, a few were still hanging out on the container. *Awfully* darned cute little guys!
