Pet and Jungle APril 5thHello All,
I was invited to attend an open house at Pet and Jungle pet store in Arcadia/Monrovia area.
I was offered a table or two to promote and show some of my collection, but I would like us to promote SCABIES instead.
This is a few weeks or days before the Reptile show at the Eaton Canyon Center, so perhaps we can display some of our spidres and other inverts.
Celeste what would be the chances of displaying some Czz????
I can bring tables and I would need someone with one or two canopies or those quick portable tents.
Andrew,Nesh,Warren, let me know if this is doable, I will be there regardless.
thanks all.

my knee jerk reaction is "HELL YEAH!"

Celeste

I could probably make it, but not until later in the day. What time do they want to start?
I also have two of those pop-open canopies, and two folding tables I could bring (plus some folding chairs).
I could definitely bring some Corucia -- I just have to figure out which ones (I would prefer to bring an entire group, because if you bring just one the others freak out about their strange smell on return, and I can't bring any really pregnant females).

mine are still dots as well.
but i've been quite flimsy on the feeding.

|
Pulk

|
Celeste

I have a bunch of house centipedes I can bring if you want. I gave away three at the BBQ, but have caught four more since then. :-)

If someone keeps presuring me I can get my caresheet all up and running by friday.

How pressured do you wanna be? ;-)

constant PM's would do the trick
|
cacoseraph
|
ok, i have ADULTS of C. longitarsus, C. theveneti, and possibly one more species (not as cool as the silvers and blues, but still)
I am a little torn on what to bring and how... if i bring my stuff in cuppies can someone loan me something to display them in? i think i will be driving to work to use the computer and have to pocket in everything i am goign to bring
i have some fluorescing flat millis and BANANA SLUGS i can bring too
|
ftorres
|
COOL
|
cacoseraph
|
if people will list what species they are bringing i will try to put together informational handouts that include a paragraph or two on all the natives. i would like to have some kinda half or quarter page handouts that ppl can take home (with scabies forum on it of course)
not pro done, just some B&W printouts i will make at work
|
~Abyss~
|
SCABIES really needs some kind of logo.
-Eddy
|
cacoseraph
|
we have the version 0 logo that steven whipped up for now
i quite like it but other people said we could get something more appropriate
hmm... what if he redesigned it to have the CA state flag bear instead ofa sort of generic teddy bear?
|
~Abyss~
|
Im all for the bear...just not the Teddy part if I wasn't so busy I'd do it myself. I discussed with David and Wayne that I wanted to do something like a SoCal monument...Maybe like the Hollywood sign letters spelling SCABIES and a trapdoor behind it....I have some ideas in my head just cant seem to put them down.
-Eddy

i expect if i asked choobaine she would do a logo for us. she is quite talented at drawing
for our versoni 1 logo we need to capture the essential aspects of scabies. first and foremost we are a group that appreciates CA native inverts. second we are a group that likes bugs in general. third we are a group that should protect nature when we can. i have been meaning to get on that third point
i'll tell you what. let us not worry about this in this thread, right now. this thread should be for the P&J event planning only
we should definitely get back to the logo thing though

I only have one unoccupied kritter keeper (about 6" wide x 6" tall x 8" long) -- would that help? If so, let me know what kind of substrate to put in it.
Also, I will bring at least two of my house centipedes (Scutigera coleoptrata).
You want me to try digging for Jerusalem Crickets?

i am silly
i can leave empty cages in my car... i will just take the bugs in cuppies into work with me

What day is this ?
Just saw that, April 5th. I don't have anything amazing to show, but I can show up!!! It would be fun.
Possibly I could bring something small and common? I have an OBT that's made a nice web, I might be able to bring a 6" P. Striata If you just want something pretty?
I also have that Iodium I won two BBBQ's ago (I couldn't find ANY info on that spider !)
|
Celeste
|
Oh! That reminds me: I have one little green Lynx Spider [surviving of the four] I got at the January BBQ I can bring as well!
(Of course, I could bring about a gazillion cobweb spiders if anyone wants some, too...)
June would be a better time for local bugs... We get Ten-Lined June Beetles, Green Fruit Beetles, Katydids -- all kinds of cool bugs up here in the summer! :-)
You want us to bring any non-natives? I have seven different species of roaches (including big, fat Tiger Hissers), African Giant Millipedes, mantises (non-native), a Vinegaroon, Tailless Whipscorpions, etc., all of which are handleable.

I am going to bring C. longitarsus, C. theveneti, some kinda trapdoor + it's trap, some of the fluorescing millipedes, a couple few big native mills, the pretty blue tiger centipedes i just got, maybe some blind centipedes.
::lol::... i am going to clink and rattle when i walk into work =P

Couldn't find ANY info on the little guy. But he's pretty nice looking, seems very content to eat any amount of crickets I give him and he's pretty calm.
I suppose I could bring him in a small Kritter Keeper if you want Francisco ? Just let me know, or I'll show up without him !

thanks to Johnny and Destiny for showing up. always good to have a true spider weirdo around even if he does try to get me to play with all his unknown toxicity bugs =P
thanks to celeste for showing up and bringing the canopies and letting me play with your prehensile tailed skins! those things are great!
thanks to francisco for getting scabies involved! thanks for letting me play with your bugs again... your blondi boy was awesome to get to play with!
Pet and Jungle hopes to do another type of this open house before 2009 and wants more bug people

Yeah! It was great fun today!!! And you guys missed Johnny's "Seester"... ;-) Very chilly, though.
Upcoming events include the Southwestern Herpetologists Society show at Eaton Canyon on May 10th, where scabies will either have its own table or (worst case) half of my table. Then the Bug Fair at the Natural History Museum the very next weekend, on May 17th and 18th. Woo hoo!!!

HEllo All,
Andrew,Celeste,Tim,Johny and Daughter. Thank You very Much!!!!!!
It seems like we are on the right track. Next show May 10 and then MAy 17-18.
We have a lot of things to organize and put together.
We need a lot of materials, so lets volunteer to help with these stuff.
Please Ask ANdrew or Celeste as they have some really good ideas as to what to make for our future presentations.
Once again Thank you all.
