Pill Bug Habitat

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes.

Got some pill bugs and whipped up a simple inexpensive habitat for them. From a jello container.

It is filled with the soil of the pill bugs' natural habitat along with some detritus found in the same place. Got a water dish to keep soil moist and humid. Apples and bananas are some of the treats i give them.

What do you think?
Very Happy

Go out and find some flaky bark ...stack it with a layer or two against/embeded into the substrate.  Each layer will support a group and they will move layer to layer depending on humidity needs.  Let your substrate dry out but try not to let it get bone dry for too long.  Give em a soaking every week or so.

I have a nice colony of those local giants (wood lice ..not the rollys ...though I have some big rollys too) but Im beginning to think that thy are not big because of specie/genetics, but from some other nutritional/environmental factor(s) ..because so far none of the new generations (CBs) have grown past the regular sized ones we see all the time.

Steven, have you ever thought about the giant size being a recessive gene? Something similar to dwarfism in humans. It's rare, but it does happen.

Suppose it could be... not sure how that would work though ...you'd think that the breeding group of all big ones would produce more big ones. ??

Well you would need to identify which one actually has the gene first make sure it's the 2nd or so generation.

Not exactly sure how it works though as i am a bit rusty on my genetics.
