Riverside County Regional Park & Open-Space District

a nice lady contacted the old scabies yahoo group about doing presentations for the Riverside County Regional Park & Open-Space District!

she said it is usually from 10a-4p and 300-700 ppl show up!

this would be an amazing opportunity for our group and we would be helping to represent tarantulas/bugs at the Riverside county events.

our emphasis on local bugs would also be a nice like, skillset match to the event(s) too

as i get more info i will post it here Smile

see http://www.riversidecountyparks. org/ for more info

Got this via the SCABIES yahoo group. I don't know if anyone is even on that anymore.

Anywhoooo, someone found us and contacted us....

You can contact Terry at californiatgirl@yahoo.com

Here's her message:

I do 4 or 5 exhibits per year for Riverside County Regional Park & Open-Space District. The
Ts are a favorite among the park visitors and the park interpreters actually get phone calls to
find out when I'll be exhibiting.

Unfortunately, I'm leaving the state. They've asked if I know anyone who would be interested
in taking over for me.

What's involved? Drop the Ts in deli cups, set them out on a table and talk to the public
about them. Usually from 10am to 4pm, 300 to 700 people visit the functions. (I have made
little species descriptions and display these next to each Ts deli cup.) I do this for free, as our
parks and open spaces get little funding and it's my way to support our local wildlife centers
and educate the public about Ts. I'm sure if you wanted compensation, they could make
some room in their budget for a small fee.

The link to the Yahoo group is http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/scabies/
thats was before we had this site, so it's not used anymore,.
On that site it does have the link to here..

YOU ROCK!  My two favorite park interpreters made me cry when I said goodbye.... seems the Ts are THE most popular exhibit they have. And one of them was planning to do a whole spider day with my Ts as the star attraction! Anyway, the next event is the Pecan Festival in October.

Here are the two ladies who are anxiously waiting to hear from anybody who is willing to fill the gap I'm going to leave!!

Hidden Valley Wildlife Area
Margie Valdez - Park Interpreter
951-***-****

Louis Robidoux Nature Center
Sherrie Chandler - Park Interpreter
951-***-****

You can just call and tell them "Tarantula Terri" referred you to them. They are super nice and will answer any questions you have. There is an opportunity to exhibit at other parks in the district... I simply didn't have the time!!

Any specific questions, give me a call at 951-***-**** or e-mail me, whichever is easier.

Terri

So tomorrow I will give them a call and see if we can get the ball rolling on this...
