Sept. BBBQFor a Sept. BBBQ, we have another member thats willing to host our group.
The member is Terri (MizM) on the boards, she wrote this;
"Again, I would like to host a bar-bug-que. If there is enough interest
to come to my area that is! I'm in Moreno Valley, we have LOTS of
habitat around here.
I have access to a clubhouse with miles of display tables we could set
up, it also has a full kitchen. We can use the pool and the park also.
Let me know is enough of you are interested, we could make a full day of
it. if some of you have to drive a long way. Naps on the couch would be
encouraed also!! Don't want to send any over-tired drivers out on
the SoCal roads!!
Terri "
So lets strart ironing out the details and have another good time...W

As Andrew has already stated a couple of posts ago it, FIRST has to be checked w/ Terri (MizM) before we can discuss which dates are best for us individually, so until then it really doesnt matter which day or weekend doesnt fit our INDIVIDUAL schedule. I dont want to sound harsh but lets get potential dates first and then we can do a poll to see which dates (if there is more than one) would fit the majority's date books.....W

I plan on being there regardless of which day it is. Driving from Oceanside won't be so bad. Looking forward to meeting a few other nutcases like myself. I'll also have to pick up the B smithi that I purchased. Will anyone object to me bringing adult beverages?

last bbq i drank enough to somehow end up with a P. regalis on my head
but, it is definitely up to the person hosting! if we have it at MizM's place it sounds like it would be a community clubhouse, which will almost certainly have rules of its own
i should be able to have a BBQ at my apartment when i get settled in. you will DEFINITELY be able to byoab (byo adult b) there!
very good to see you on the forum, oger! (yes, i know "oger" is part of your last name and all... but it is WAY too cool of a nick to not use it!)

So glad you found the board. i sent you an email with a link a while back but just saw last night that you were still having trouble.
i've got your B. smithi slings. They're eating like champs. i *may* be able to get them down your way before the next event. i have an aunt in Oceanside. Is your schedule flexible at all? My niece (Insane4Ts) will probably be going down to visit for a few days before school starts and i was going to see if i could send the B. smithi with her. There is a Starbucks just down the street. Maybe you guys could meet up and get your slings. Let me know what you think.

All of that sounds good. My schedule is very flexible, or at least I can make it so, and any opportunity to pick up the slings would be great. Let me know and I'll be there. What a great forum!

the clubhouse type thing what does it accomodate? stove/ BBq pit?
the time might be a lil on the late side.
last time we started around noon and that seemed to work pretty good, there was enough time to cook, eat, raffle, trade, hike, and clean up and we were done around 7ish i beleive...W

Sept 9th works for me, i believe. and i should be considerably closer to Riverside than i am now. i think i am living by like, where the 215 and 30 are. i think.
i do think that earlier would probably be better. there is a definite scabies trend to be late and take long to do everything.

"Hmmm....subtle hint that it's your birthday. Ok, I get it, I'll bring your 8-legged gift. :::lol::"
not really I just don't want to be anywhere next to my ex girlfriend. Don't ask. I really could care less about anything I've never been big on birthdays. The one time i did celebrate it ended like crap. So i just except happy bdays from people but would prefer it to be a regular day. (maybe I'll just ask for the day off at work to reflect on how regular of a day it is  )

well......i requested in the very beginning of this thread that we not have it sept 8 or 9.......
but, i was ignored.
if we cant agree to that, then i'm totally willing to host the BBBQ myself on a later weekend (the week after).......if it's okay with everyone.
if not, then that's 2 BBBQ's missed by the "Social LeftTenant"........and that's just not right.

Hey, i was just wondering if anyone knows when we might know something more concrete. i blew off a dog trial the weekend of Sept 8 & 9, as well as, an entry voucher worth $32 towards my dogs entry fees good for that weekend only. i'm kind of bummed if it was for nothing but its not the end of the world. More importantly just wondering when we might know a new date for certain so i know what is safe to enter my dog in. i am very flexible - but my schedule gets completely filled up. i had a great time at our last event so was giving our next one my priority too! Thanks!

i think this means another event is in order! Perhaps Neshan can host this next one. Maybe we could have some sort of Bug Thanksgiving sometime in November? Or maybe a "Come Dressed As Your Favorite T" for Halloween? Does anyone live where kids still actually go trick or treating? We could make an awesome T display? Just throwing out ideas for Neshan and then got carried away... ::lol::
Count me in at the Sept 9th BBQ - 2 Adults and 1 teenager
(Since my niece usually ends up doing the cooking i'll check with her about what side dish before i pick one. )

well, we have only had one bbq so far so we are still ironing things out
but... last time it seems like about half the people brought bugs to sell, trade, or for show and tell. also, i brought some bugs to do a handling demonstration (and maybe breeding demo, but that didn't happen)
i think there is a chance a couple people might bring bugs to breed/introduce this time

well.......Warren and I were planning on doing a breeding demo with Cyriopagopus spp. "Blue" (he has a MM, and I have the girl from the San Diego show)

Well, i will most certainly be bringing your B. smithi slings!! i also hope to be picking up a MM A. avic from Warren. Last time there was a fun raffle that people donated things for and a separate one we used with the freebie B. smithi slings Ryan sent.
Last time Francisco and i put our E. murinus together but the male was only intersted in the females water and crickets at the time. ::lol:: It was pretty noisy to expect them to do much i think.
i would be very interested in information about your roaches.

BOND! I really am sorry! I would eat a bug myself to have a day that EVERYONE could attend. I want to meet ALL of you! I owe you a s'ling from one of my billion breeding projects! There, feel better? No more ??
This is where the hunt will be:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&a...026049,0.052786&z=15&om=1
Where Reche Vista meets Reche Canyon, we'll be going right. It's pretty much a desert type environment, but if we go further down the road, there are foresty type areas. Unfortunately, close to the road there is tons of trash, however, these have often become lovely hides for local critters. WARNING: We are expecting very hot weather. That's why I've planned to get out there by around 6pm, then we can wander around and enjoy some night hunting too.
I'm planning on b-b-qing piernas de pollo preparado sin hueso. In other words, chicken, no bones, marinated! So, what I'll need from you guys is a definite yes or no and how many are coming. Also, some side dishes would be great.
Go ahead and bring any bugs you would like to sell, trade, give away, etc. They can be left at my home. I'm only about 15 minutes from the hunt site.
Any other questions?

The hunt was mildly successful, found a few hesps and some pretty cool cellar spiders that seem to be communal. I also found a Vaejovid scorpion but still have not been able to get a good ID.
Here are the pics of the spiders and the scorp.

So sorry..to much junk in me head. Meant to get back to this post some time back.
Fantastic. Love the scorp!
Yep those Pholcus are quasi-communal. I have found them in mass groups ...one example was inside a sub-pump box underground. Lots of food ...lotsa spiders. Usually you'll find S.grossa hangin with the colony as long as the colony is low to the ground and covered.
Hey btw... you need to take my out collecting in your area one of these evenings.

My area sucks for collecting. Most of the stuff I find is from my backyard.
But if you want widows I know a great place to find immatures and males...
