SEPTEMBER 2oth BBBQ. Huntington Beach.

Alright, I decided it would be fun to have one, partially so I don't have to drive anywhere and deal with parking, and partially because it'll be fun!

I have a large back patio with a big covered section giving plenty of shade for all the bugs, lots of room to setup.

All you need to bring is a couple tables and were set.

Sat. Sept.20th

  • Warren = Chips and Dips
  • Ogershok = pickled sausage slices with onions, spices, and hot peppers.
  • Kyle = Chicken Tikka Masala alot more this time Wink

Well, now that my secret tikka masala recipe is out, I guess I can't bring that anymore...  I've got some other good ones so I'm sure I'll come up with something!

I'm going to get a few lbs of some nice marinated Carne Asada to grill up, probably 3-5lbs depending how much other food will be there.

Last time I got 5lbs it filled up like 8 people and we still had about half of it left.

This last BBBQ, and the ones before too, had so much good food it was incredible. I'm looking forward to that aspect almost as much as the people and critters. I wouldn't be surprised if Bobby Flay showed up for a throw-down. One question - will this one also be "wet?"

OK,,,, the subject now is a specialty Mexican dish called "Birria". It is a traditional dish generally reserved for special events like weddings, quinceneras, baptisms, birthdays etc. It is similar to Pozole and Menudo and the original recipe uses goat meat but beef is just as good, if not better. It is spicy and goes with rice, beans, tortillas and your choice of chopped onions, cilantro and special birria hot sauce. I dont like like to toot my own horn (but I will brag) that I make awsome birria from an original recipe of the area (Jalisco) that is famous for it.

The question is:   Should I make it and if I do, will you be able to handle some spicy good stuff? (I wont make it all that spicy). If I do, it will be beef.

Personally, I would prefer goat and very spicy! Nice young goat is to die for.

Put in the head and the feet. All that stuff makes it yummy! I expect my Tepin peppers to be ripe by that time too. In Texas they call them "gringo killers."

I'm on a diet...Sad. And lost quite a lot of weight since my homeless days. But you should make birria but it's better with goat meat. I can put in for some of it but I cant cook it....trust me I've tried.

Sounds good Johnny, I know I don't look it but I got some mexican in me, my grandmother would probably love it. I might have some family there, not sure yet.

OOH, one update I forgot about.

The ONLY thing you CANNOT bring to this BBBQ would be pet Mice / Rats. The site of it would literally give my grandmother a heart attack, she has an unnatural deep seated fear of them, haha.

Everything else is cool though, snakes are "ok" haha.

I did not know there was such thing as a rat / mouse free hot dog. I thought it was standard fill. What is this world coming to. I don't know about you but I like my chix lips /or beef anus mixed with ground ratter matter. Alas it won't be the same. However if it makes your family happy, I will comply. So far this seems like the smallest list of food thus far !! haha.

I might be able to make some fish tacos or something also... I'm pretty good at those.

But yeah were in need of some type of desert I guess Denise.

Also the random utensil stuffis (Paper plates / forks, the usual stuff)

I'll bring something large and quasi-vegetarian, like a giant size Michaelangelo's vegetable lasagna or eggplant Parmesean or cheese enchiladas.  But I won't get there until about 2 pm.

Oops -- there are a bunch of Equinox celebrations that afternoon and evening, so I might not make it after all...  So best if you do not count on me bringing food (if I make it I'll bring some, but if I don't I won't).

OOOOH, I'd also like to say, we have like 1 table...

So anybody bringing a lot of stuff (Dave, Francisco) might want to bring a few tables for yourselves as usual.

Although I have PLENTY of shade I have a covered back yard patio thats close to 40' long and 15' wide.

So, bring some tables for your merch !

I was thinking about making a separate list but I think it would be closed or something. If you want to feel free, it would be useful.

We had grasshoppers prepared last BBQ or so, I think they were spicy lemon grasshoppers, I forget. Francisco brought them I believe.

UPDATED FOOD LIST

Updated food list. I read through the thread.

Eddie, Ceviche would be great, I never had it before Johnny's BBQ but it's pretty good stuff. And yes, Im still getting Carne Asada ::lol::. My aunt suggested Adobada also, might get some.

Rakie = marinated Carne Asada / Some drinks
Scott C = BEER / Kiddie drinks !

We'll see what we need and I can pick up some odds and ends.

As of now, were looking not bad on the food. Might need some paper plates and plastic forks and that kinda stuff.

Oh gross......I am very afraid of roaches....So the chocolate covered ones are great because they are dead but to eat them...I think not! puke_r

Although, I did eat a "cricket licket" sucker along time ago on a dare but I never at the cricket-just got close enough to it to gross everyone out.

You need to hang out with us more. I used to have a roach phobia and at the last bbq some of us were eating crickets and mealworms...bbq flavor YUM!!

Actually boiled grasshoppers are rather delicious. They turn red like lobsters when you boil them. cat  cat  Very Happy

If someone brings them again I'll probably try some.
