SFBATS/SCABIES 2008 CA Camping Trip!?scabies wants to do some camping trips
*i* want to camp where we can catch Calisoga longitarus... which means heading to northern CA
it seems like scabies and the bats should take the opportunity to do a joint event!
i am still researching the range of C. longitarus and what camp areas would not present legal hiccups for collecting.
tentatively... Spring 2008?
i think there is a pretty big meeting in central CA once a year... if it is in spring maybe we could make *our* camping trip temporally adjacent to that central CA thing and do both?

Where are you guys talking about exactly? I love camping, any excuse to go is a good one.

I love camping too, the more primitive & simple, the better. One time while camping, we barely made it back alive. The Holiday Inn Express we were camping at did not offer even a continental breakfast in the morning. I've learned to be better prepared for future camping trips.
Maybe this camping trip we can plan that the campsite, possibly a Marriott, be within maybe, 50 to 100 feet to the hunt site. That way we can be back at camp before dark.

I hope peeps are just scared of the cold, and not the joint adventure.

Why don't we pick on SCABIES member and one BATS member and have them make some dates pick some spots ect. BTW I am not driving my car up north any more after what happened last time... So if anyone want's to give me a ride I'll put in for gas.

Or we can drive your car and I will ride with you...hehe . Poor bastards that try and start anything...hehe

Rob, you out of all people know how messed up my car is. I rather be in something a tad bit more reliable.

Oh...yeah...I thought you meant the other reason from what happened up North.
|
~Abyss~

Well I meant both reasons.
1. I don't have a "reliable" car.
2. If I end up as messed up as I did the last time I wouldn't wanna drive back with a concusion

This would be great late spring ...its awesome green up that way during that time of the year ...and of course its warmer.
Right now all Ive been concerned with is finding work ...and letting this stupid leg heal ...oh and the yard/house work that we were supposed to be doing now that Sarena has some time, but I munched my leg.

We looking at some sort of meet in the middle type a deal here, or what?.... I'm good for some cool spots(less so the farther north I go), but absolutely worthless for proven bugging spots.... which makes me no good in this case. You got some ideas Ken?
and are we talking legit campground with little shower bungalows, or wash your ass in the creek leave trash and die type camping?
Waiting for warmth is definitely a good idea. I'd be happy to do some scouting though while it's still colder if we're going the wilderness camp route.

i am up for as minimalist camping as the rest of the group is. i would definitely want to have zero impact (expect the bugs we lift) camping
i would really like to camp someplace we can find Calisoga longitarsus. Unfortunately for us SoCA'ers that means driving a little farther north. i still need to make a wikipedia map of all the ranges
i'm making range map now
the range map can be found here
http://scabies.myfreeforum.org/sutra961.php#961
i would like something in Tulare, Kings, Monterey, Fresno, San Benito, Santa Cruz, Santa Clara counties. Those should actually be decently in the middle of everyone.

Have a car!It can't offroad though. (mini cooper s). Ayone have half an idea for dates yet? ??? I 'd be interested and could pick up a couple of people who want to split gas.
.....My schedule at work gets booked MONTHS in advance. I can take vacation, but I need to know WAY in advance. Like seriously, I know what my schedule is for the entire year already.
Love to hike/camp, but after the last time by myself when I slipped off a rock, landed on a cactus and had to pull prickles out of my ass with a leatherman while balancing pants around my ankles on a teetery rock I'd prefer to go with other people ::lol::.
P.S. No country music in my car please
Minimalist camping ok!
Why is the subject of my post so small? Very unnoticable.

i think i will try to work on this today
if anyone can find campgrounds in the aforementioned counties we can start actually planning this mofo

ok. as it turns out the first thing i need to do is really nail down the legality of collecting in various types of places in CA. boy, that is an easy job =P

As long as it's not a state park, then it should be okay, But it doesnt hurt to ask first
I was talking to a Ranger and He said you could NOT collect on state property because they are considered "Nature Preserves"
More investagation needed!!

I don't know exactly what area you are all targeting, but any National Park is fair game for collecting. I live in Santa Barbara Co. and have been scouting sites up in the Los Padres National Forest (new to the area). It's really beautiful and apparently great for collecting.
National Forests = 100% OK, should warn the rangers though if there will be numbers of people showing up.
State parks, forests, nature preserves = permit required, sometimes you can get permission to collect if you're nice (or a hot girl).
National parks, rec. areas = impossible, even hard to get legit. permits.
Anyway, if there is a trip that happens north or south of me, I'd love to come along and offer rides whenever I can. I also have black lights and bucket traps for night collecting. I just have an accord though...no off-roading anymore. And yes, minimal camping...nothing sucks more than waking up next to a camper.

Ah yes...maybe I should have looked at the range map haha. I'm new to Cal. so I'm useless for known sites. But from what I know, national forests are the way to go.
