Tadpole care

I have a co-worker that was asking me how to care for tadpoles. I have no clue since I have never had one.

He said it was a bullfrog tadpole. He wanted to know how to house it and when he should expect to start seeing legs.  Laughing

Thank you for any help that you can provide me.

Put it in a ten gallon, some gravel, and go to walmart and get a tetra repto filter for like $10. Feed it frozen or live bloodworms.

You're going to want to change the filter media once month. You'll only need to fill the water half way up.  Feed it once a day. It doesn't need a heater.

It also takes them a few months and up to three years to metamorphosis

Ok thank you!

he said he had it for 3 months already and nothing has changed. I guess his kids keep waiting for the legs!  Laughing

Yeah the metamorphosis takes awhile, he'll get really lucky if it transforms for him this year. Tell him to get a pacman frog, or even a tad pole. It only take a few months for them

Great Thank you so much! I printed this thread out and he said to say "thank you!" to you.

He is going to get everything you listed and the bloodworms.

Thanks again! Very Happy

Hey Denise - depending on what species it is he may have success feeding it flake fish food. I've had luck doing that. If they'll eat it I'd suggest one of the flake foods made for mollies or other fish that require plant matter in the diet. Some tadpoles prefer algae and others are more carnivorous. If it's a bullfrog tadpole it will probably take the flake food easily. Of course once they mature it's live food only. Best of luck!

Great! Thank you David.
