i have no idea what they are. i kind of wanted to take a scale pic but didn't want to mess up the eggs somehow and ultimately left them alone. they were pretty small... much much smaller than AA chicken eggs.
i haven't seen quail in that area (Rancho Cucamonga, burned lands). oh wait... wait... getting a memory from five years ago or so
... there could be quail there. i vaguely remember my brother pointing out something that he thought could be quail when we were hiking.. but my lack of long distance vision ability made it look like.. most other birds look to me from far away =P
all the birds i recognize there don't make eggs like that. rather, don't make nests like that. the nest was on the ground, btw

They are a tad motley, and the quail nest should be built on the ground, looks very similar. Damn, I grew up eating these little guys , It would be cool to continue monitoring them

oh poison oak chokes parts of that valley!
the gods of irony cursed me with allergy to almost all plants... but seemingly immunity to poison oak i do have to be careful not to spread the oil to other ppl, though
also, i REALLY wanted to flip that rock. i didn't. but i really really wanted to.
