Hemiscolopendra marginata is a North American centipede. It is of small-medium size (~3" BL max) and is not noted for being overly aggressive. H. marginata is the only species of Hemiscolopendra known to the USA. This species possesses ocelli (eyes) and has 21 pairs of walking legs.
Hemiscolopendra can be differentiated from Scolopendra by the possessing more spinous coxopleural proceses.
In personal communication with a person of dubious validity i have heard this species of some localities thereof are very tolerant of each other. The facts of the matter remain to be seen, but i hope to acquire a large group of these to experiment on and culture

APPEARANCE
It seems there are two distinct colorforms for this species.
Common:
Blue/grey in body color. Legs light colored with bluegrey bands. Tergite margins darker than centers.
Striped:
Light in body color... a cream almost. Darker dorsomedial coloration. (it has a dark strip down its back).
I am guessing the "common" coloration is normal and the "striped" color patter is a local variation.
