What do Crickets eat??Just a simple question hehe, cuz i usualy go out in my back yard and catpure all of the smallest crickets i can find and them bring them in and split them between my 3 spiders. They usualy eat 1 every 5 days or so. But depending on how many i've captured, some of them can be in the terranium for at least 2-3 weeks before he becomes a meal.
Thats why i would like to know what crickets eat just in case they are in the terranium for too long. I wouldn't want it to die before my spider gets the chance to feed on it.
Also , in the winter i'm gonna have to buy crickets from the pet store and i was wondering if they eat the same thing as wild crickets.
Thx in advance

i would definitely not feed wild caught (WC) crickets to any pets you have. the overwhelming likelihood is that any one particular cricket won't be infected or carrying pesticides
... but the likelihood of one out of the hundreds you will eventually feed out being a baddun is significantly higher
i need to take a picture of the 14" (er... 35-40cm) long wire worm that What gave me. it came out of a cricket he caught! now, i don't believe that particular species can invade our pets *too* easily... but it REALLY goes to show that there are things out there that parasitize or otherwise plague our pet species

But in response to Krawll's question, I usually toss a chunk of carrot into my pets' enclosures if I expect the crickets to be in there for very long (don't want them deciding to munch on my pets instead!)

also
crix are dumb as mud and will figure out how to drown themselves in all but the most tiny of water cups (and if they are little they will still drown themselves) so you might want to invest in the polyacrylimide (er, can't remember how to spell that) water crystals
actually, we should do a group buy or using scabies $ to buy the crystals in bulk and then we can sell them to the group and use them as prizes. buying an ounce or two by yourself ends up being quite a bit but if you buy pounds at a time it is far far too much crystals for anyone to use

ok thx for answers and advice
The reason i was giving them wild crickets is because all 3 of my spiders were wild captured and i was hunting their food in the same area where i found the spiders. Thinking it would be the best solution if they were hunting that area before i captured them. I do understand what you mean though. I also think you're right. Even if the chances that i poison my pet are rather small , it still remains a possibility.
Guess i'll just start buying my feeders now It will also give me a good reason to go and talk to that very cute girl that works at the pet store hehehe.
thx again people
