why it is important to document local species in captivity!

so

my sweet little Aptostichus sp. trapdoor spider made an eggsac.  i started to do a little research and couldn't really find anything on google about their post mating reproductive cycle at all.  it might be in an offline journal somewhere or maybe a book... but it isn't anywhere readily accessible to the normal hobbyists.  i did what i normally do with a mygalomorph on an eggsac, and kept the substrate in her cage from getting too dry.  well... i think i guessed wrong and they actually need a fairly arid microhabitat to raise their eggsac to hatching and my sac went bad.  if there is a next time i will try keeping the mom and eggsac a good deal more dry...

the point of all this is that when i searched in google for "Aptostichus eggac" i got exactly one hit

and it was scabies*

that really hit me with the importance of documenting the in captivity conditions that lead to successes AND failures for all of our local species!  plus, when you document species and a random non-scabies person finds a link to a nice and informative thread on a forum that is active then maybe we can get more members Smile

(* and now that hit is out of date and you have to check out the cached version to catch the correct link... but i think i can maybe fix it by bumping the thread a few times and let google suss out the thread address.  here is the cached version http://74.125.47.132/search?q=cac...nk&gl=us&client=firefox-a )
