Hey everyone. I'm Vasiliy and live in Gilbert, AZ. Joined up here on cacoseraph's recommendation. I usually visit the Riverside area every year and have no success whatsoever in finding anything of interest, so maybe I'll learn how to do it right here.
I'm on the ATS forum and Venomlist so you might've seen me around before. I've been in the hobby for about 4 years now. |

Greetings, everyone. I was also sent here by cacoseraph from arachnophiles. My name is Sally and I am a teacher, systems administrator, mariachi, and novelist. I am also in the process of getting sucked into the vortex that is arachnomania.
I'm new to the hobby. I wanted a puppy, but we live in a 2 bedroom in spendy ol' Santa Monica. Last November, I wrote a novel in which the love interest owned a tarantula. The tarantula turned into a character in her own right, often taking over the scenes she was in--some characters do that. As a result of all the research I did on tarantulas, there we go, now I'm the proud owner of a b. vagans, who for some reason acts exactly like my mother. (My mother was insulted by the analogy at first, but after I explained why, even she had to agree). I am looking forward to owning an a.versicolor, a GBB, and, I don't know, one or two gratuitous brachypelmas of some kind in the future. |

Hi, Sally! Make yourself at home! ;-)
Anyone who recognizes that her tarantula has a personality of its own will fit right in here!
Be sure to come to the Bug Fair at the Natural History Museum next weekend and meet some of us in the flesh. Francisco will be there as well selling all kinds of wonderful invertebrates (at a separate, vendors table -- the scabies table will be a purely educational table with no inverts for sale).
Usually, we have a BBQ every other month. But I think because of all the events this month the next one isn't until June. (Check out the "Meet the Meat" forum). _________________ "Tarantulas are friends, not food" (but I bet they taste pretty good with butter and lemon!) |

Thank you for the warm welcome, everybody!
In fact, the guy who sold me my gateway T works for the Natural History Museum...I'm expecting he's a member here. So thanks to him, I've been eagerly awaiting the Bug Fair. I can't wait to meet you all!
In my mariachi ensembles, I play vihuela and sing. I plan to start learning guitarrón, as soon as I have the money to score a decent one.
Speaking of which, time to go--I have a Mother's Day serenata to do. Happy Mother's Day to all human and theraphosid mothers out there! |

Hello, aracnid lovers!! I am a second grade teacher who likes to learn about all kinds of animals, including spiders, reptiles, amd amphibians.
My son and I were at the Nat. Hist. Museum because of the BugFair and had tons of fun! We now have a new pet named Bugster. He is simply a Ironclad Beetle, but my son loves him. Right now Bugster is hangin' with his new homie, Iggy. I can see us getting a couple of tartantulas, then some scorpions, etc. This from a woman who has had nothin' but cats and dogs.
These bugs are way awesome. Oh, by the way, Iggy is our pet lizard! I am reliving childhood dreams with my son!!! |

Hi, grantmama55! Welcome to scabies!
I, too, am finally having the childhood I always dreamed of! Too bad my son isn't as into bugs and reptiles as his mom is! ;-) _________________ "Tarantulas are friends, not food" (but I bet they taste pretty good with butter and lemon!) |

Hello All,
Names Michelle. I'm a wife and mom of two. Don't really care for bugs but brought our son to a bug fair so he won't grow up afraid of bugs like me. He loved it!!! Wants to bring home all sorts of little creepy crawlers. Just got a millipede. I may be turning to the dark side. ::lol::! |

Welcome to the dark side Michelle
I myself grew up in a family that told me everything (insect related) I touched would give me fever or some sort of weird illness (moths as far as I remember would release a powder-dust from their wings which would make me blind if it fell in my eyes )
Glad you are giving your boy a chance enjoy the board and feel free to ask any questions you may have about the pets your son wants to keep... who knows, maybe you'll too soon be keeping some of your own

Buwahaha! Our evil plan is working! ;-)
But seriously, once you get to know more about bugs, you won't be as afraid of them, and might even get to really appreciate (and maybe even *like*) them. :-)
Kudos to you for being open-minded enough to give your son the chance you didn't have to learn about these fascinating creatures. _________________ "Tarantulas are friends, not food" (but I bet they taste pretty good with butter and lemon!) |

Hi SCABIES members,
Michael here. I found out about the group during my visit to the annual Bug Fair at the Museum. I look forward to going on some collecting trips, both with the group and with anyone else who wants a collecting companion and a good excuse to head out of town!
I've been interested in spiders and their kin since I was a young child. I've always been fascinated by T's and especially venomous spiders, insects, snakes, and other venomous critters. BTW, I just viewed some nice photos of Phoneutria spp. (Ctenidae family) at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/techuser/sets/72157603167029346/. That is one awesome genus of spiders!
Unfortunately, I haven't had any pets for many years because I've moved around so often. But, I'm open to perhaps having a T pet in the future. I love going on collecting trips, even though the only thing I really collect is great photos and memories, and the chance to connect with nature.
I look forward to meeting folks and having a good time!
