I was curious what T breeding projects people are currently working on or planning to do this year. After only 33% - 40% success with last years breedings I hope to breed more females this year. Also, if any of us are trying to breed the same species, we might be able to share our boys.

Last year I attempted to breed 6 T's
Out of the 6, I only know for a fact that 4 mated and got inserts.

N. chromtus - I know for a fact my crazy female never mated with either of the two males I found for her! Result: obviously nothing, she recently molted!

E. murinus - I never saw my female and Francisco's male actually do the deed; though I did witness attempts. Result: She resently molted.

B. smithi - Good inserts, made a sac; however, when I opened her sac most of the eggs were all dried up. I also noted that there was a nickle size area of her sac that was so thin I could see through it. I am guessing this was the cause of the dried eggs. It was very unfortunate as there were several eggs just looking like they were going to pop into eggs with legs but their developement must have stopped already as they never developed further.

P. pederseni - Male co-hab'd with my girl until she ate him. Not a cool thing to wake up to! Anyway, she also dropped a sac but then ate it at exactly 28 days!!! I had gone out of town overnight and came home to a gooey, wet sac with a few remaining eggs with legs. They have all since died very shortly after. I don't think Mama's venom was all that healthy for them. ERRRRRRRRRR!!!!

A. avic - on a more possitive note; this was my first sac to open and I now have ~60 healthy 2nd instars. I swear there is nothing cuter than Avic slings!!!

B. vagans - not sure if this is good or bad but I ended up with ~500 - 600 eggs with legs when sac was first opened. They are now 1st instar. I'm guessing I should start separating these little buggers sooner than later. I honestly don't have a clue what I am going to do with them all. Note to self: breed vagans earlier in the year, you don't want to have the last of a bunch of vagans sacs!!

So, last years breedings brought some pretty exciting and disappointing results. I am planning to breed more T's this year which I hope will result in more sacs! All my girls are freshly molted or should be molting shortly.

This is what I would like to attempt to breed for 2008:

Avicularia avicularia x 2 females
Brachypelma boehmei
Brachypelma smithi x 2 females
Brachypelma vagans (I know, I know... I need to have my head examined!!)
Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens (Only one of my girls is big enough)
Ephebopus murinus
Nhandu chromatus
Poecilotheria pederseni (I'll be pulling somebody's sac early next time!!)

There might be a couple others if I can get my hands on them.

What have you guys bred or plan to breed this year?

Nice projects!  Some of mine are:

Avic avic - Bred on June 9th, one good insert, sperm was seen inside furrow.  She's fattening up and hopefully will be dropping a sac soon.

Poeci ornata - My female just molted this past weekend and I'm picking up Nesh's male at the BBQ.  There's a pretty good chancing of getting good results, if not, I have an immature male that should be maturing next year sometime.

Poeci miranda - 2 females waiting on a male, 1 freshly molted, not many people have males available so not much luck with that.

Psalmo irminia - I have a breeding pair, the male will be ultimate next molt and the female should molt at the end of this month.

That's about it for me!

Warren, I have an immature male fasciata that's about 3" or so that should be mature by the end of the year if you want to keep me in mind.

So, Francisco is hoarding all the good males!! ::lol::

Will you keep me in mind if your MM GBB is still fresh and makes it out alive??

Are your '09 projects Mature Males yet?

The only MM I actually have at the current moment is a MM E murinus. If I get a sac from this breeding I still want to give you some of the slings for loaning me your MM last year.

I also have a big Female G pulchra I am trying to close a deal on.

I am picking up Neshan's G aureostriata this weekend but don't think she is big enough to breed this year.

If anyone has mature males for these big girls, I can start my 2008 breeding projects now (going to post a "looking for mature male" ad soon...will also place ad for my spiders  Razz ).

Molted in the past month & a half:

0.2 Ceratogyrus marshalli
0.1 Nhandu carapoensis

Will wait for next molt (should be this year):

0.1 Chromatepelma cyaneopubescens
0.1 Ceratogyrus brachycephalus
0.1 Aphonopelma chalcodes
0.1 Aphonopelma sp. "eutylenum" (bred in January so we'll see if she'll lay a sac or molt)

2009 projects:

1.1.2 Selenobrachys philippinus
0.1 X. immanis
0.1 A. geniculata
1.0 P. metallica (purchase female or loan out)
1.0 A. versicolor (loan out)
1.0 E. campestratus (loan out)

Much more but probably won't mature until 2010 or beyond.

Sure I will, but I read that 90% of the time male dies

Are your '09 projects Mature Males yet?

No, some are really close others needs a couple more molts, I think.

I also have a big Female G pulchra I am trying to close a deal on.

Cool, I do hope you get her, I have 2 confirmed males and one that looks male, so I will have 3 males, one is a subadult and the others need like 2-3 more molts.

I am picking up Neshan's G aureostriata this weekend but don't think she is big enough to breed this year.

If she is big enough, I will share Warren's male with you. I don't think he will have any objection.  Very Happy

My P. regalises mated 5/4/08, and I am getting Nesh's female and hope to mate her with my male next week.  (So I'll have 1.2)

My P. metallicas should be old enough to do the deed by the end of this year or early next.  I have 1.1 of those.

I also hope to try to breed the Malaysian Giant Cave Centipedes. (Thereuopoda), as soon as I can figure out which ones are the males and which ones are the females!  :-P   I have 0.0.4 of those.

And I have a bunch of African Giant Black Millipedes I also hope will produce some babies (they certainly have been *mating* a lot!).  I have 1.2.11 of those

My female Deroplatys lobata produced an ooth, but since I didn't have a male for her I assume it is sterile...

Awesome projects everyone has going and/or planned so far.

I think SCABIES has come a long way in the breeding department.

Hey Warren and Francisco - thanks for setting up the male Chaco. Like I said, not so sure she is big enough and it sounds like Warren knows her already! ::lol:: One of my very favorite T's is an immature male Chaco. I was bummed he turned out to be a he so I was pretty excited to be getting a female. My boy is pretty good size but I know this species gets big. I'll be curious to see how big your boy is Warren. Maybe my male will mauture next year or the year after and he can make his rounds to anyone who can use him.

Looking forward to the BBQ!

Jules

Well, I have my P. cambridgei male hanging out in the female's cage right now...for the second time. Fairly sure he already made a new sperm web after I took him out so, we will see how it goes.

If you need a MM P. camb mine is potentially available...Francisco, you still need one?

Kevin, I am definitely going to the BBQ. If you would like me to pick anything up for you; like the rest of Neshan's collection for example or deliver anything for you - just let me know. I'm just in Irvine. You could drop off anything at my house. Let me know.

Hello All,
He is around 2.5-3" hard to tell since he just hide at any sign of movement
Unfortunately or fortunately is a male (I am guestimating from a ventral check I did)

Here are some pics of the Male B auratum, I will take some from the M bolfouri later.

regards

francisco
