Yep, The DFG warden that works the area is very well known to us in the wildlife research field. He protects the Palm Springs/Cabazon/ area like his own house. He does go overboard sometimes but, he tries to send out a good conservation message. I'll tell you all the stories of the area when we get there

Okay heres an update;
Raul is a maybe, hes has work issues.
Francisco, Balam and myself will be meeting at my house around 9ish, head out around 9:30 be in Ontario hopefully within an hour. so if we are early we will probably be checking out the Bass Pro Shop till the others arrive. from there the plan stays the same.
So Denise from my group there will be 3 for sure and a possible for the 4th for the Head count.
Kyle are you still going to try to make it? If so bring the camera cuz the should be some good photo ops.....

Secondly, I want to make sure that the license is just a regular CA fishing license that we can pick up at any sporting good store or tackle store.
I just wanted to verify because there is a special permit for collecting reptiles and amphibians but I think this is only if you are going to sell, export, etc. I just wanted to verify that the regular fishing license is ok.

Yes, just a regular fishing license is all you need for general collecting. There are limits to the numbers of animals you can collect also. Certain species cannot be collected at all. Unfortunately, even they DFG reg book does not list what you cannot collect, very dumb. Please read the DFG reg book anyways. You can get one usually at anyplace that carries licenses. I think reptile regs start at pg. 19.
You have to be careful with certain species. There are certain lizards that are protected by federal regulation that look almost identical to ones that are not i.e. Xantusia spp. Also with geckos you have to know the difference between unprotected C. variegatus and federally protected C. variegatus abbotti if you are in the area they both occur.
