Hi Guys,

The lizards are in the order shown are:

Xantusia vigilis , Yucca Night Lizard

Uta stansburiana , Side-blotched Lizard

The one I was trying to catch but, unsuccessful was a Granite Spiny , Sceloporus orcutti (not photographed)

Here is a scorpion I grabbed during the hike. The little fella is only about an inch long. A majority of the ones seen were S. mesaensis but, I'm thinking this one little guy is a Hadrurus sp. The scorp has different features then a other 2 I grabbed. What do y'all think??????

It looks like a Hadrurus but it lacks the mask.  I wonder what sp. I got tagged by.  I was going to make a sting report, but I'm not sure whether it was S. mesaensis or what.

I think it just an ordinary S.mesa because of the shape of the telson. But then again I am not be wrong but if its a Hadrurus sp. it surely is Hadrurus arizonensis "pallidus".

Nice catch!

I know!  I was about to take him home with me!  I even had it in a deli cup in my backpack for a little bit until I came to my senses and realized that he needed to stay where he lives.  I still miss him  Sad

I know what you mean. I would have done the same thing! He'll be around for you to enjoy on your next visit!  Very Happy

I am leaning toward S. Mesa. One thing I noticed is that the S. Mesa seems to run in a different manner than the Hadrurus. I noticed my S. Mesa's all run with their pedipalps extended forward a bit and their tail flat except for their telson which is pointed forward. All of my Hadrurus tend to run with their tail in the air and their pedipalps more to the side than the front.

EDIT: I am retracting my original guess and stating that I believe this to be a Hadrurus Arizonensis Pallidus. My reasoning is based off of the thicker metasoma (as mentioned below), the less bulbous chela, and the possible center of "the mask" around the eyes and the image reference below from Scorpion Files showing a very faded mask. I also lean towards Pallidus as suggest by Vixvy due to the light color between the segments.

Interesting observation! I'm gonna make my guys run and observe the difference.

The reason why I think this one little dude is different is that he has more "hair" then the others. Also the metasoma is thinker then the rest of my S. mesaensis. Maybe its just me? drinking too many Rockstars I guess ::lol::

Here's an S. mesaensis that I caught out here.  Your scorp doesn't look anything like it.

Well one thing that does point to it being a Hadrurus sp. is that its chela is less bulbous and more streamlined compared to the S. Mesaensis.

So I guess I might be leaning towards Hadrurus now. Also I noticed some black rounded markings around the eyes that looks like the center section of the mask. It seems that not all Arizonensis have very noticeable masks. the male in this picture from Scorpion Files doesn't have a very strong mask to it:
http://www.ub.ntnu.no/scorpion-files/h_arizonensis_mating1.jpg

Eric, Do you know if you got this one from the 1st site or the 2nd? If from the 1st site I would strongly lean towards Hadrurus. If from the 2nd then it "could" be a dune, but I think more and more that my initial guess was incorrect and it is a Hadrurus. If it is indeed a Hadrurus then I would also agree with Vixvy on it being a Pallidus.

You guys dont know why the call it the desert hairy scorpion Smile. Thats a H. arizonensis pallidus. Nice coloring too complete lack of mask I would love to breed it with mine when it matures.

EDIT: Actually does have a bit of mask around the eyes if you look at it.

Hey Eddy,

Haha, Thats what I put in my first post, he is hairier and just looked more "heavy" bodied compared to the others. Oh yeah, all the dunes looked normal, no reds Sad

Hey Sean,

I have no clue where this one was collected. I usually number, photograph and GPS everything I collect but, not this time since we were on a "recreational" trip.

Hi Jules,

This is a solifugae-Camel Spider. Is this correct Eric/Kyle?

WOW! Very interesting bug and great close up pic! I am guessing those are its overly HUGE pedipalps up front; next to its also overly HUGE chelicerae?
