Did anyone else get eaten alive by mosquitos?  I didn't notice until today, but now I'm itching like crazy!

How's that?  ... ...oh wait, seriously JUST came to me..nevermind...

Poison Oak   ...ok Ill say it one more time ...poison oak.  damn ..underside of my arms and some on my legs...nasty, nasty.
Also, nasty blackening (slightly necrotic) of all scrapes ...probably majority being thorn scrapes and stabs from that certain tallish bush ...kinda light colored ...u know the one..  ...damn..stupid bush.

Andrew... I do believe your poison oak ID was correct.  Reading up on it, it seems that it CAN be a vine out west here, but usually it grows upward sorta like a straighter stemmed bush... yep, just like all that shat we walked through. Wink  I guess out East its usually a bush and out this way it can go eitherway.
Also, I THINK that chunk of bush that I pulled out of the wash sand is in fact poison oak.  Hope it takes ...potted and I think it has potential.

Going to haveta try out IvyBlock... http://www.ivyblock.com/
P.sumac, p.ivy n' p.oak...all 3 have the same substance that gets ya ...IvyBlock is supposed to block/bond with that chemical, preventing you from building up exposure during romps thru the wood.

It really was a fun hike. Good to meet Andrew as well, I must have gotten bit in the back of the arms by the mosquitos, and did not realize it until I got home.

Here is some pics:

Habitat Shot

Damselfly?

Kyle's smiling find:

Here's that Alligator Lizard:

and here it is trying to get a hold of any part f Kyle that becomes available:

Blue Fang?

These were fairly common there, I think these are P. johnsoni (based ona quick Google search and Kevin's earlier comment on local Phiddipus sp. in So. cal -different thread-)

Small 'pede:

P. silvestrii?

Pectin shot, I count 20-21, male or female?

I was also lucky enough to pick up (thank you all), some isopods and one of the local millipedes that is now co-habitating with the pede.

Thank you Andrew for that myg you cleared on the way down.

Fun hike peeps let's do it again soon:)

my guess for the scorp would be 1) P. silvestrii or 2) some kind of vaejovid

it looked relatively female, but i didn't check it out too much

those phids have excellent fang coloration Smile

I agree with the tentative ID of the scorp based on some picture comparison (not the best Idea, but they looked eerily similar). If it is a she, then she is either getting ready to molt, or gravid, or just plain fat Smile.

I forgot to ask you Andrew, what was the field ID of the myg you dug out from that wall (the one I happen to take home  Rolling Eyes ).
