Lookin like im going down to New Orleans to ba...er..see the wife.  Thinkin on booking a one way to Orlando ...get me smack dab in scrub land...do some huntin and then drive over to Orleans for the weekend ...then fly back from there.

Trying to get a hold of a couple people ...JeffH being one ...anyway ...looking for a guide AND any suggestions for the hunt ...areas, creature requests etc.
One thing... there is supposed to be an oak laden area in Louisiana(?) that Cyclocosmia inhabit ???...would LOVE to know where this may be!  SCABIES bloodhound gang ... help me out if anyone can. Wink
My route is obvious when heading from Fl to LA ...pretty much north thru Fl and over.  But, that should get me within or close to some interesting areas and Im thinking ill have at least a couple days+ a night or so ...not alot of time but Ill not sleep and max out my hunting time.

Sound like an adventure?  God knows I need an adventure ...and me wife!   Laughing

Hello Steven,
I will Call Brent KArner from the NAtural History Museum Bug Zoo, one of his friends  is the director of the Insect Zoo in Lousiana, I think is the brand spanking New Audobon Insectarium. I think his name is Zack

Audubon Nature Institute P.O. Box 4327 New Orleans, LA 70178 (504) 861-2537 air@auduboninstitute.org

If I get Brent to contact Zack he might be able to tell you where to go to get what you need.

If you get a hold of him just tell him you are Francisco's friend, Brent's friend with the Rhino roaches in Los ANgeles.

He might remember me as we spend some time at the last years Insect show and a couple of BBQs at a friends house.

If you go to this link Zack is the guy in the Second picture showing a dragon fly to some kids.

http://www.auduboninstitute.org/insectarium.html

will keep you inform.

francisco

If you happen to be in the right area/happen to see any, it would be pretty sweet if you were able to find me a Centruroides gracilis, maybe a pair?   Very Happy

Thanks, Nick

Those should be all over ...at least thats what another Fl resident AB member once told me. ..We will see!  I always thought them cool, but figured Id rather collect them myself than buy em. ...Figured Im bound to get to Florida sooner or later ...its the USofA's bug Oz...ya gotta get there or be square.   Cool

Hmmm... unless plans change... Im actually going to be only 60-70 miles away from Ft. Pierce. (maybe 50 crow flies)
Jeff probably knows whats up with them ...if they can be reached and collected.  PROBABLY wont be able to go that way though ...but I have no set plans except for exploring the pine/palmetto scrub areas.  If we head North..because he claims there are better widow areas North vs where hes at ...maybe we could utilize my lead foot and get over there for a quicky sneaky brachy snatch.  One of many possible interesting missions.

i asked a friend to talk to rick west to get a general idea.... he hasn't heard back as of 2;30.... generally speaking irrigation channels next to farms are the ideal spots....they seem to like the clay and sand combo for burrows...

I have a friend on another forum that posted this. Maybe you could help him out.

Quote:
I am in need of non native species of anoles, excluding brown (bahaman anoles) and knight anoles.

In particular I am looking for these fine anoles,
http://www.myfwc.com/WILDLIFEHABITATS/Nonn...restedAnole.htm

other anoles,
http://www.myfwc.com/WILDLIFEHABITATS/Nonn...tiles_index.htm

Also maybe a few of these,
http://www.myfwc.com/WILDLIFEHABITATS/Nonn...owheadGecko.htm

I want to start breeding these invaders in captivity and by collecting them from Fl and not buying WC animals from native habitats I am doing 2 good things at once.

Please provide pictures of any anoles you may of caught so I can confirm their species.

I will cover all shipping costs. Please try to collect at least 5 anoles to save on shipping.

Thanks to anyone who may happen to help

Be cool to run into them...but...I wont collect verts on this trip.  Too much travel and too much time before I 'deal' with the bugs to get them home.

Not that it will tell you how to find them ('cause it has nothing to do with that), but here is some reading on this particular species.

Gonna have to stop at kmart or something ...pic up a knife, diggin blade, cups and a cheapo sleepin bag.  I THINK I can take tweezers (only doing carry on ...hate having baggage) yet, they can choose to take away ANY sharp object if they feel you may poke people in the plane with it.
No swords ...I checked the list ..cant bring my blind fury walkin cane. ...sucks.   Laughing
Hey...that reminds me ...I dont know jack regarding the snakes down there. ...gotta get a walking cane/ski pole for sure.  I figure.. my rule of thumb will be, if it has no legs and slithers, dont pick it up, only poke at it.   ... Wink
