Pretty much my conclusion ...the only thing is that I never saw it NOT "hooding" ...it heard me coming and turned itself into a Moccasin. Look at it while it swam away...still wide as heck... seeing the pics made me start to reconsider my org harmless water snake ID.
I looked around at a ton of Moccasin pics and only a few had markings reduced in width but none had this type of bands.
Little bit a bummer... like coming across that new slick Honda thinkin' its a Ferrari but finding out its just a cool Honda.
...anyway, very cool Honda.    Wink  Very Happy

Definitely not a Water Moccasin.  Water moccasins have vertical pupils and heat-sensitive pits.

The beige bands automatically should of told you it wasn't a moccasin. Juvies look almost identical to juvie copperheads. Adults are very dark all around, patern but very had to see.

Anisomorpha buprestoides really neat sticks, They have an unusual defense. They will secrete an acidic compound which can cause temporary blindness if threatened by a predator. It can also shoot this compound up to 15 inches. Humans that get squirted in the eyes can experience severe pain, and irritation for hours or days in some cases.

Nice find Steven.
