Hey scabies !!
I still often go to insecthobbyist.com because thats where i mostly found out about my interest for spiders. When i joined that forum there were at least 5-6 members still visiting the forum and answering ID requests for people but lately, i seem to be the only person who does have a certain knowledge of spider who still visits that forum to try and help people. All other members have been away for so long, i'm starting to think they simply won't come back.
Now most of the time ID requests are realy easy. It's always the same species coming back such as jumping spider, wolf spiders, orb weavers , Fishing spiders and so on.
Sometimes i do come across a species i realy don't recognize though and since i'm the only one out there , those ID requests remain unanswered.
If anyone thinks he does recognize that spider plz share any knowledge you might have . I realy wish for that forum to remain active. I know that forum still represents a starting point for alot of people who are willing to learn and it would be sad if it went dead.
I'm pretty sure it's a Salticidae ( Jumping spider)
The only thing that gets me confused is the spider's size. The guy said it was a little more than an Inch and i have personnaly never seen such a big jumping spider.
Looks alot like a Phidippus borealis or maybe Phidippus johnsoni but i didn't want to confirm any ID before asking other people first :-)

The second spider sure looks like a jumper, the size being over one inch seems a tad dubious though.
I can tell you this though, it doesn't looks like P. johnsoni to me, at least not the ones that are found in this area (it's lacking a rather prominent red on the abdomen).

first is probably Thomisidae (crab) and maybe a Xysticus species
the second is probably Salticidae... and i expect that they are talking legspan... and are probably inflating the measurement slightly
but remember... Phid. octopunctatus can do 1" BL! _________________

Check this website out. There are just so many species out there that it makes it really difficult to go based on one picture, but I would say it looks eerily similar to the unidentified P. sp. in the middle of the page, (blackish abdomen with lateral "golden bands").
Plus, it is difficult to assert if this is a juvenile or an adult, just look at P. princeps (also found in Canada), and the large variance of color from young to adult.
For the crab spider, I had seen alot of Sparrasidaes and i had also seen some Philodromidaes but for some reason,i had never heard of Thomisidae and i guess i missed it while browsing bugguide.net
I'm glad to see i was rather close with the Jumping spider. I had at least got the Genus right
I'm also glad to see i'm not the only one who's a little skeptical about the size estimation provided by the guy who requested the ID.

If it wasn't for that website i would've never heard about Scabies forum
The general spider forum there is still getting about 3-5 new posts a week but the others are pretty much dead. The tarrantula forum is getting maybe 1 post a week , wolf spider and jumping spider forum aren't getting any .
I'd be happy to see you coming back and help with IDs. :-)
Krawll, this site (scabies)... youll find some amazing peoples that can ID or will research IDs ...but it may take more time depending on the month or somethin' ... so keep posting here ...but... I have found that numbers can count and there aint another place like AB forums when it comes to numbers ... u'l have a great chance of stirring up a good ID debate if u post at AB. _________________
