I do buy cricks at the Chino location. There are some young gentlemen working there that do have a desire to learn about inverts. A few of them own scorpions and Tarantulas. When I go in, I ask them what they have and Sean and I help them out as much as possible. I also referred them to here so that they can learn more.
While I still have the same feelings about Prehistoric, the Chino location is not so bad as the Foutain Valley location. As least the Chino location is not putting T's on wet paper towels.

I won a small tank at the BBQ and I thought it would be proper to buy a new T for it. The closest pet store to my home that sells Ts is Prehistoic Pets and since I was in the area, I thought I'd stop there to look at their selection, despite my previous review of the store.
I walked in and went around to the back counter where they had their Ts. They had been in deli cups with a wet paper towel or bark chips as substrate, along with a sponge. I took a look at a few snakes that caught my eye and then looked toward where the Ts were kept. They were gone. Not a single T in sight. I thought they finally had gotten rid of their Ts, so a brief moment of relief came over me. I wanted to confirm this, so I asked the clerk if they no longer carry tarantulas and he said they do and pointed to a wooden case with sliding glass doors.
Instead of 4" deli cups with improper substrate, they now had much wider containers with coconut fiber. Rosies are still priced at $24.99, as well as 2.5-3.5" A. avics costing $29.99, but they had other Ts that looked fairly priced. They had at least one H. maculata, about 4.5" for $34.99. 5" H. gigas for $34.99. Haplo sp. ("black zebra" I think) for $19.99. Large Pampho. antinous (sp?) for $119 or $149. All in all, not as ridiculous as before.
As I was looking at the A. avics, I noticed one was missing a leg and I pointed it out to the clerk and asked if I could get a discount on it. He checked with the owner and she said they could knock $5 off the price, so I went ahead and got it.
Also while deciding which T I want, the clerk asked my opinion on a couple of the Haplos they had. There were three of them, two of them were black and the third was a brownish color. He said, "You know more about arachnids than I do; do you think these are the same species? They have the same label on them, but they look different to me."
That's something I haven't come across more than once before: a pet store clerk admitting they don't know everything.
I told him the pattern on their abdomens were identical and that the brownish color could mean it will be molting soon, and he was satisfied with the answer.
I didn't look around the rest of the store, but the conditions the Ts were in is vastly improved. I really hope they keep this up. _________________ My Facebook | My MySpace
Good to hear that.
I beleive Matt was helping them out with proper set-ups and advice. _________________ “Look down at me and you see a fool;

Im glad to hear this, but they'll still get none of my business. _________________ www.orotundaudio.com Making high quality Microphone and Instrument cables.
