Well the day has come. I am finally going to get my first scorpion. I get paid today and will be heading over to prehistoric pets and purchase my first scorpions. I am getting two Iomachus politus. Getting a Male and a Female. I am excited. I am counting down the clock to 530 when i get out, cash my check, and fly to prehistoric. I will upload pictures of set up after i get everything all together.
Buwahaha! Our evil plan to take over the world is working!!! ;-)
(Just kidding! Congratulations on your first Scorps!) _________________ "Tarantulas are friends, not food" (but I bet they taste pretty good with butter and lemon!)
So did ya get 'em? Can you upload pictures? _________________ "Tarantulas are friends, not food" (but I bet they taste pretty good with butter and lemon!)
I got them for 16.99 a piece. If these are both female and I were to put a male would they all get along? Or if one was male and I put another do they fight?
Well looking at the claws closer one does seem to have bigger claws. Almost double the width. Can't really tell by looking at pictures. Matt Kogler looked at them at pp and told me they were male and female. I don't know what he looked at when he looked at them. I can try to get a better picure of them laying out with the claws foreward.
Their not medically significant but I always advise agains holding any scopion. But if your feeling brave remember they don't sting the ground they're walking on so keep your hand flat and try to scoop it up with a cup _________________ AbYsS

Yeah, but we have seen at least one scabies member have an allergic reaction and require emergency medical care... we're talking ambulance and trip to the hospital. (Was that to a scorpion sting, or to a centipede bite? I can't remember). So if you *must* handle them, make sure you are not alone and have someone around who can keep an eye on you in case you do get stung and have a bad reaction. It's rare, but please don't take any chances.
I actually wear heavy leather gloves when holding my son's Emperor Scorpion or any of my Flat Rock scorpions. Not sure whether that provides much protection, but it makes me feel braver... and it gives me a chance to assess their aggressiveness. _________________ "Tarantulas are friends, not food" (but I bet they taste pretty good with butter and lemon!)
gloves are usually a bad idea especially with flatrocks that like to attach themselves to surfaces. I've heard of people damaging scorp limbs like that. If you get a scorpion on your hand your pretty safe untill you have to figure out how to keep it from crawling up your arm and how your gonna get it back in the tank. _________________ AbYsS

Yes male and female, look at the pectins, one has them close together, the others are further apart..
Glad you like em, they are the first ones we have carried... _________________ Reptile Rescue Orange County

ok well i finally did handle the male. I put my hand in flat on the ground and used tweezers to move it onto my hand. He just sat there on my hand, was a little nervous when I first went to do it so I backed off but the second try I was feeling better about it. Still don't know if I am allergic to them thankfully. But I was also wondering if I can feed these little things some dubias?

Roaches make some of the best food for a scorpion. I have feed my emperor some discoids that were half eaten by other discoids and the scorpion was fine. _________________ My karma ran over your dogma...
Well I have had these little guys for about 3 months now together and I think she might be pregnant. Not 100% sure but will snap some pictures of her when I can. But she is DEFINITELY a lot fatter.
