This will be the thead to make a biota cross reference in. Basically you can look up a species in this thread and find all the locations we have encountered it in Smile

[i am trying putting this in Haunts... to tease you bastards into finding new places and submitting them to the officers so that you can gain access to Locale Colour. come on folks! we can make a truly amazing resource if we all work together. heh. i sound like an afterschool special sometimes 01Nov2007]

Each location has a five character tag assigned to it. the tags are links to the Locale Color thread for that location. Sometimes the tags will be marked up. The marks stand for the following things:

# indicates the possibility of a species, but no actual encounters with the actual biota.
## is similar to one cross hatch, but with some kind of real evidence
* indicates multiple morphs have been found in that area
& indicates that possibly more than one species at that taxon level exists in the locale
&& is similar to & but indicates stonger possibility and/or more species
!!! controlled species, DO NOT CATCH
!! requires a fishing license to catch, bag limit = 1!!!!!
! requires a fishing license to catch, possible bag limit

n.b. many common taxo names are from bugguide.net

PLEASE KNOW AND FOLLOW THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF CALIFORNIA AND THE UNITED STATES REGARDING THE LIVE COLLECTION OF ANY ANIMALS! VERTEBRATES (amphibians, reptiles, mammals, avians, etc) TYPICALLY ARE CONTROLLED AND SOME SORT OF LICENSE IS REQUIRED. TO COLLECT ANY LEGAL (note rattlesnake) HERPTILE AN ADULT MUST HAVE A VALID FISHING LICENCE!
